DPW does not install speed bumps on public roadways due to safety issues and snow plowing issues. Speeding problems should be reported to FPD. FPD and DPW work together and have purchased speed monitoring signs that may work in this situation.

Really? We are supposed to call and bother the FPD everytime someone speeds by? Are you recommending the emergency or the nonemergency line for this? I really don't see them appreciating that, especially when people speed by so often and too fast to even catch a plate number. How do other towns and cities with speed bumps plow? It certainly is possible to still plow, and it is MORE of a safety issue to NOT consider the solution of installing speed bumps on problematic roads, especially in the close vacinity of parks where children frequent.

I am not aware of any DPW that installs speed bumps on their roadways. Speed bumps are typically installed on private property including commercial developments and private developments like apartment buildings.

Fitchburg DPW will not install speedbumps, and if drivers are breaking the law by speeding then that is an enforcement issue. You can contact FPD Traffic Division at (978)516-9369 ext 1269

The City of Cambridge Ma installed "Raised Crosswalks" to slow people down in several neighborhoods where speeding was an issue. You can find information on their Department of Public Works website. They have even gone so far as to install "Raised Intersections" I am sure they would love speaking to any citizen, or DPW employee; that would be interested in learning more about how they have managed to implement what are basically "speed bumps" into the cities landscape.
