Description

Directly in front of our house on 3221 Cates Avenue NE Atlanta 30319, there is an entire new can of paint in the road. Not sure if it was done deliberately or if it fell off a truck. It could become a bigger mess than what it is if it isn't immediately clean up (still wet).

I read something that you might want to try. Since it's Sunday it may be a while before the city can respond.

Cleaning Wet Paint Spills

It is much easier to clean up fresh, wet paint. Speed is the key here. As soon as you spill paint on concrete, act immediately. Whether it is water- or oil-based, first absorb as much as possible. If you're outside, use dirt. Cat litter, sand and potting soil work as well. If it's just a few drips, quickly rubbing a little dirt into it may be all that is needed. For larger spills, sweep the absorbent material and paint mix up, and use the appropriate solvent to clean the area. Using a hose and a stiff bristled brush is effective for water-based paint.

Unfortunately you never know these days and I really don't care how it happened. I simply want it cleaned up. A neighbor said they noticed it before dark and after looking at the spill again, it probably fell off a truck.

RK this spill is in front of your home. In our neighborhood, what we can, we take care of ourselves. I guess we have different views on our respective neighborhoods and how we care for them. Don’t worry; eventually the elements will take care of what remains of the spill.

Yes, it is in front of my home and an eyesore. Stop preaching to me. You don't know me. I didn't appreciate your comment that basically stated I do not care nor try to add to this neighborhood or community because I didn't get the spill up. I consider myself a handyman but was not sure how to handle a thick paint spill on asphalt. Additionally, I was told by the City of Brookhaven this morning they would come out and clean the spill. Finally, our "views" are not different. I want to take care of my neighborhood and the investment I made in our home.

City of Brookhaven: Hello, I noticed you did send a crew out yesterday but after they assessed the spill, they left which I assume they did not have the correct tools to remove it. Will someone else be coming out to remove it? Thanks for your time and help.

We understand your concern. The roadway crew attempted to remove the paint; however, it has dried and has become very difficult to remove. At this time, they are exploring other removal methods to increase a successful result. An update will be provide soon. Thank you.

Hello, the paint has dried and will not be very difficult to remove all of it. However, the Director of Public Works and the roadway maintain supervisor is devising a plan to most effective way to remove the more paint.
