Q. Please describe the issue so we may route your request to the appropriate department and service area for resolution.
A. Please do not wait until a human is killed to address this. We have more than a usual amount of traffic. Most of it does not follow the speed limit and there are many children living on our block. A number of pets have been lost due to speeding already. Please install a speed table in the middle of our stretch of road. Some criminals have taken to chasing one another here in thier motor vehicles. It is not safe.

Speed bumps/tables to slow traffic are no longer utilized in Gainesville*. That practice was eliminated by the City Commission several years ago (and has been defunded) due to the impact these devices were having on emergency vehicles and emergency response times. The last policy discussion in 2014 re-affirmed that decision to keep a moratorium on speed humps.
The best way to control speeding is to ticket drivers. Traffic Engineers are very limited in what actions can be taken due to local, state and federal regulations. A greater GPD presence in the neighborhood is the best deterrent.
(*The new speed tables on W University Ave [May 2021] are a result of extraordinary and unusual measures taken by FDOT/UF/City officials.)
