Solid lines or not, this is NJ - people will still cut in. Why not use the plastic barriers like on the Verrazzano or in the tunnels? They seem to work and are probably inexpensive. They just spent millions putting new guard rails on 24 - they should have spent the $ correcting this situation.

This area is a death trap, a major disaster waiting to happen. I travel the stretch from Columbia Tpke to the Whippany Rd exit every night, and there are on average 1-2 accidents PER WEEK, and many near misses. The "center lane" is the exit ramp for 287N and there are cars whizzing by on both sides (left for 287S, right for Whippany Rd exits). Cars from both sides try to cut in, and optically the instinct of the driver in the center lane is thrown off because of the speeding cars on either side. The nights I see from Columbia Tpke that there is high volume on 24 I avoid it and proceed up to Park Ave instead. A bit longer, but much safer

This area is dangerous. Driving on 24W to get to Whippany is dangerous as motorists fly down lane for Whippany then dart over to the 287N middle lane at the last second with no signaling or warning of a lane change. They should place a barrier forcing people in the Whippany road lane to get off at that exit and not use it to avoid 287N exit traffic.
