Seconding this request ... this has become a real hazard.

I followed up with a phone call to the city about this ongoing DUMP "Occupy 51st St Encampment"
The Oakland Marathon will be running past this blight on Sunday. Maybe if enough people call it in we can get this area cleaned up.
Another attempt was made to start camping at Lawton and 51st.
I told the person to pack up and leave but was given the usual F*#k off.
Next day I personally demolished the encampment.
problem solved.

This has been going on long enough! I personally pick up the trash in this park, so I know it intimately. There is now so much garbage that I can not possibility pick it up by myself.

I just spoke to Arturo at the City of Oakland call center. He says one of the issues was that this was reported under four different service request numbers with different addresses. He has combined these together, so SR # 508823 is now the correct one. Arturo says that a work order has been generated and it has been assigned to Keep Oakland Clean and Beautiful. Hopefully something happens soon. Feel free to check in with the city at 510 615 5566 for details.

3/25 4:12 pm: Just spoke to Sara[h?] at the City of Oakland call center. She says that Dexter English, a supervisor in the Homeless Encampment department of Keep Oakland Clean and Beautiful says this is a Parks Department issue and is transferring it to them.

3/25 4:17 pm: Just spoke with Dexter English at KOCB Oakland Public Works. He says he is working on the issue with the Parks Dept. but has about 20 other similar things on his plate, and asks us to be patient. He is definitely aware of the issue, knew instantly where I was talking about, and says he just checked it out yesterday.

It's gone! They removed it this morning. Thank the public works guys if you see them. It was a big pile of crap. They had three or four trucks out there.

What made this item a Parks issue? That is not a park, it's a right of way on the side of 51st Street. Do they count that as a park?

dmjaeger, I spoke with Mr. English at OPW just now, both to thank him for getting the debris removed and also to ask him your question, as I was curious about that too. He says that the Parks department got back to him yesterday and confirmed that, bizarrely enough, that stretch actually is Parks department land. He said he didn't know why it is classified as that, but there you are. Despite this, he says he figured it's really closer to a street side right-of-way and as such, he just had his OPW/KOCB crew go out and deal with it. Either way, yay!
