Traffic Sign Complaint Open

it makes no sense to have a bike green light across cambridge st followed immediately by a stop sign after a tiny island. I think the stop sign was meant for the cars coming north on quincy and turning right to enter the tunnel so that they stop and look for both pedestrians in the cross walk and bikes continuing all the way on the green light they have. Cars should be forced to.stop before the crosswalk bc they will not know to look for bikes coming across cambridge. also a stop sign paired with a bike green will cause bikes to end up stopped in the middle of cambridge street once traffic is back to normal and many cars and bikes are going through that intersection.

Park Maintenance Request (General) Open

111-199 Ellery St Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA

Can access to the High School Tennis courts be restored and the nets installed? With climate change, there are, increasingly, temperate days for playing tennis even in winter. Today, 1/17, the courts at Pemberton, Hoyt Field, Riverside Park were all filled, with several parties waiting at each location. Cambridge is a city of 110,000 people with an insufficient number of courts for such a population. Restoring access and the nets at the high school would be very welcome. (I see there was a 2020 plan to refurbish these courts, which haven't seen work in years; likely these plans were scuttled by the homeless shelter activities.)

Dangerous Intersection Next to Playground Open

45-47 Maple Avenue Cambridge, MA, 02139, USA

I noticed another poster wrote to complain that the NEW raised intersection at Inman & St. Mary is too steep or too high, and it made me realize that perhaps it's now "Raised Intersection Season"! If so, I want to get in on it:

I've been asking for over =3 years= now for a raised intersection over on Maple Ave & Marie Ave. We have a very dangerous situation there where speeding cars come down Maple from Cambridge St & put little kids/families who use the tot playground (corner of Maple and Marie) at high risk for serious injury or worse. Very dangerous.

It is actually very dangerous for everyone who lives on Maple. Cars often turn down Maple Ave from Cambridge St and speed all the way down to Broadway. It seems to serve some drivers as a vent for road rage. This kind of dangerous driving is not welcome here! Many little kids and families. pets, etc live on this street and whenever I hear one of these speeding cars, my heart just goes into my throat.

It looks like they recently put up a sign with a teeter-totter on it about 100 feet before the intersection, on the opposite side of the road, and partly obscured by trees. This is a wholly inadequate remedy.

Please put a speed-reducing raised intersection there! There's nothing like a lapful of coffee to deter a driver from speeding down a particular street!

  i second this comment. with the playground there needs to be something to deter drivers from speeding down maple ave. whatever happened to our new 20 mph speed limit as well.

Gathering Order Violation Archived

There was a gathering with 50-75 people in front Cambridge City Hall yesterday. Police were blocking one side of the road where folks gathered and they were not 6 ft apart. they were listening to speakers and the event was being filmed by a crew. Is the city exempt from state rules or there own? I don't know who sponsored or approved this event but it did not look like a pollical event. they should be fined for violating the law when Cambridge cases are increasing

The new light timing on the light at Mass/Mt. Auburn and Putnam isn't synced with the light at Mass and Trowbridge. Cyclists with a green light going from Putnam to Harvard Square are directed across the car lane, which now sometimes has a green light! THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!!!!

Missed Compost Pickup (Green Bin) Archived

I would like to ask the City of Cambridge to consider restarting compost pickup. When the pandemic started in March, the city switched to putting compost in the trash because it meant less people on the streets -- that the time I no one knew what was going on and this kind of measure made sense. But now we know a lot more about how the virus spreads and doesn't; it would be fantastic if we were able to pick up where we left off with the composting program.

I appreciate the new bike lanes on quincy street at the intersection with cambridge st, but as it stands the new the traffic pattern is even more dangerous for bikes traveling north on quincy st towards the intersection. Can cars still go straight at this intersection? There is no sign saying no, but this would mean that cars going straight would cross the path of bikes going left from the new right lane. I have seen multiple cars go straight at this intersection and cut bikes off, probably simply because they do not know to look. If this is the new traffic pattern (which I don't even think cars should now be able to go straight now) there needs to be a huge sign saying yield to bikes for cars.

  Bicycles continuing north from Quincy Street behind the fire station are controlled by a dedicated bicycle signal. Northbound cars receive a red light during the green bicycle indication.

What is the source of the loud grinding noises we've been hearing at all hours of the early morning (2am - 4am) in Mid-Cambridge? First heard it December 26th, this morning it was intermittent ending around 4am. Sounds like a sewer cleaning, but why at these hours?
