We have told our kids when we train them in driving that they need to watch very carefully if they get on the freeway here to go North and should have their horn ready...just to make people aware you are coming around the corner and they are supposed to be yielding. We have also told them they need to be ready for people to pull right in front of them, so they need to be prepared to swerve, slow down or adjust their speed...just in case the other person is oblivious which is more often than not the case :(. I have always had a problem with that entry to the freeway...We have lived in Murray for over 16 years now and that spot is odd, because for some reason no one (well...most people) don't yield. I would love a better way!!

It looks like that tree is already gone. But... the existing vegetation would be hard to see over for anyone not driving a taller vehicle.

Honestly, UDOT could put a stop light there to completely eliminate the issue. When the Green Arrow lights to allow traffic to enter the on ramp, the Stop light could turn RED to stop traffic. What a novel concept. This is not a new issue to UDOT, they have known about this issue for a long time. It's getting to the point we may need to go meet with the Legislature to get the issue addressed.

A traffic light would make sense as it would stop traffic when eastbound traffic has a protected green arrow, but it might be a bit more complicated than that. Would the traffic be required to stay stopped on a red light potentially causing a queue to form or come to a complete stop then proceed if clear? Whether or not the traffic controller would conflict with federal guidelines or needing permission from the city first? I've seen that in one case when they wanted to add a 'No U-Turn' sign to a state route, and they had to have it approved from the city (will try to find it). Maybe adding an extra lane to the onramp to allow vehicles to merge farther up? I hope by raising this issue will they'll do something, but it may not be a quick fix.

I don't understand why waiting in a queue would be a problem for traffic entering the freeway, I have to wait in a queue in the turn lane until the light turns Green, do the vehicles not having to wait in a queue have special advantages, are these people more important and afforded better privileges so they don't have to way in a queue like the rest of us.
I have installed a Dash Cam in my vehicle, one of the main reasons I did so is because of the freeway entrance at 5300 South both north and south bound. I want as much evidence possible if the day ever comes that I have to defend myself against the State and my insurance company. On average I have video evidence of vehicles running the Yield sign north bound at least one day a week. Now consider this, I spend less than a minute entering the freeway once the light turns green, If I'm seeing at least one incident a week, how many incidents are occurring in an hour, or daily for that matter? This entrance is a disaster and UDOT knows it all to well. They have tried to mitigate the issue by installing flashing lights on the yield signs, did it do any good? I'm still seeing issues getting on the freeway. The real solution is a new lane for traffic entering the freeway, but that costs money that UDOT doesn't want to spend and won't spend until the day someone is killed and a law suite in initiated to get solid resolution of the issue.

I ended up with a chipped windshield due to this and the other operator driving/accelerating in the shoulder kicking up rocks as he passed.

I use this on ramp five days a week and there are near misses that I see literally 2-3 times a week. This is absolutely asinine this has been reported for years and UDOT has yet to remedy this extreme danger. I see a screenshot of another thread that UDOT contracted out an engineer to come up with a solution a year ago. I appreciate the attention to this danger but here we are a year later with no progress. Are we over complicated this? To me the fix is relatively cheap and quick and shouldn't require an engineering firm or a contractor to fix this. What's wrong with UDOT installing a couple of large signs on the approach from the west bound lane to the NB ramp with a well-lit and flashing "STOP AHEAD, MERGING TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP", then a couple of large stop signs at the merge with red flashers and more signs that merging traffic does not stop. No need to spend a bunch of money to add a lane or on a stoplight that people will need to wait at unnecessarily
