Adel Fatur

Zelienople Borough 2020 Volunteer of the Year

As you know, the Borough started the Volunteer of the year award program in 2014 to honor outstanding individuals who as a volunteer, has served the Borough of Zelienople with dedication and distinction.

These people give their time, talents and efforts to serve the citizens of this borough and surrounding area, to make people’s lives easier, eliminate suffering and improve the quality of life.

This year, it is going to someone who is beyond deserving. The fact that Adel was nominated by three (2) different entities bears out that she has certainly spent her efforts of giving all through our town.

Adel has spent years serving the community with outstanding contributions and dedication.  Below are a few community organizations in which Adel had volunteered her time and talents:

· Adel has spent countless hours decorating and organizing parade floats and events for Red Hats Society.

· She is an active member and volunteer of the Zelienople Historical Society where she serves as an officer and “Ways and Means” chairperson keeping the committee consistently busy.  She created and organizes the annual “Sundae Sunday Ice Cream Social” fundraising event and the annual Scavenger Marble Hunt and helped with “Old Coots Giving Bad Advices” group, June Garden Fair and Hunt for History fundraising events.

· Volunteers selling quilt raffle tickets during Open Air Market on Thursday events.

· Adel is admirably called the “Flag Lady” for selling and placing flags at the 4 Corners Park in July in which she exceeded her flag goal in effort to get our town into the Guinness Book of World Records.

· She created and organized the First Annual Porch Parade event in which she recruited vendors for advertising, porch participants, and judges.

· Adel acts as the Miracle on Main event organizer for the Zelienople Historical Society.

· She Delivered Meals from English Lutheran Church to shut-ins and senior citizens during the pandemic.

For these reasons, it is with honor that the Zelienople Borough Council award the 2020 Volunteer of the Year Award to Adel Fatur.
