This pic is from earlier today. Now that the Chromium building is down the poor condition of the Conti building (especially the back) is in full view of the river walk and the newer part of Canal.
You can't put a new parking lot in and expand the river walk and have a nice looking farmer's market with THIS hovering over it all. The side isn't much better and the front? It makes the newer buildings like Dunkin Donuts and the great new residential commercial building on the corner of Howe and Bridge look like they lead to a run down factory.
I trust Shelton is working with the owners to revitalize one of the final remaining eyesores? (Spongex being the other).

I am so saddened to see Shelton seems to have "taken it's eye off the ball" when it comes to the all so important river walk. This photo was taking during a recent walking tour/inspection.
As you can see, the pole lights under the portion of the walkway that passes under Route 8 have been destroyed. EVERY one of them has had the lights smashed out of them. On the other side (on Canal) more are smashed and one has been torn out of the ground only leaving the base.
That's not to mention the endless graffiti which is invited by the lack of lighting.
I can't fathom how a member of the group that oversees the walk or any member of Shelton's government hasn't seen this and realized it's a nightmare waiting to happen. Not only is this dark secluded area an invitation to a mugging or crime... now it's not being maintained or lighted.
The river walk route should never have taken this end under route 8 and around a bridge support back to the sidewalk where cars can't see what's happening. It should have turned before it got to the bridge and crossed the lawn to the sidewalk on Canal. However, too late now.
I realize that if Shelton puts new lights up someone is going to smash them again unless police have a 24 watch which isn't reasonable.
SO before someone is seriously injured or, far worse, a body is discovered since no passing cars would see someone being attacked in this spot I hope Shelton will QUICKLY either move to re-route the walk Canal a safer way or find a solution that provides lighting that can't be destroyed.. even if mounted to the bottom of the bridge and weekly cleanup of graffiti. Yes, we know that means permission from the state one would think communication has already started since these lights have been out for months.
It's either a solution now or a major lawsuit when someone is hurt that will cost Shelton far more.

I have been using the Derby and Shelton river walks recently and notice people use TWO routes to get from the Derby river walk to the Shelton one. They either use Bridge Street which is not scenic or they use what seems to be an abandoned rail line that has a bridge crossing the Housatonic. The Derby river walk gives each access to both as a path leads to the railroad and the walk ends at Bridge Street.
Now, it makes perfect sense to me to keep people off Bridge Street and instead of building a very expensive pedestrian bridge from Derby to Shelton use the existing railroad bridge that us just sitting there. However, I'd rather not be arrested for trespassing. I can't find any online resource that says you can use the railroad bridge or not. It sure sounds like a great way to connect the two without spending a fortune.
Can anyone answer? Can this be suggested to the towns if it's not been already?
50 Bridge Street Shelton, ConnecticutSeen a dark blue or black SUV in the parking lot of Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot for the last week a woman living in the car maybe with a baby and a guy coming back and forth to bring stuff. The windows are tinted in back. Sick of the homeless people populating this area.clean downtown Shelton. Saw a homeless person living near the bridge area down by the veterans memorial park walkway. When is this problem going to get fixed.

Many times cars coming down Perry Hill Rd., ignore the stop sign and blow through the intersection. Many times I am waiting at the stop sign to turn onto Briegeport ave., and when I can finally turn safely, a vehile will come down Perry Hill Rd., and cut me off. I have been almost hit several times. A traffice light, with no turn on red, needs to be placed at that intersecion,· Reported by Bryan Lizotte · Flag Flagged
Route 8 Derby, CTWhen is RT8 from the Commodore Hull Bridge EXIT14 - EXIT08 - Stratford/Trumbull 108 going to get paved? It's been dug up and unpaved for >2 weeks. As you drive behind vehicles and especially trucks... stones and other debris is getting thrown up at my vehicle and others --- which can/will cause damage. What is going on -- did the project just stop?!
