Requests: road safety
Newkirk Ave Kingston Ny 12401 Usa
Cars are comming down Newkirk Ave. speeding, playing very loud music at all hours of the day and night and into the early mornings hours and cars are not stopping at the corners of Newkirk Ave and Maple St. They also come from Maple St. and not stop to go up Newkrik Ave.
I've seen kids come down Newkirk Ave on their bike's and one of these days someone is going to get killed. I've already had in the past and just last year, cars crashed into my gate and now into my fence. I've already asked to have the guardrail I asked to have installed, to have it extended around the corner. I was told that this will be done. I am also making videos of these problems to show if needed. Five DVD videos have been given to the police to look at, and each contains about 40 scenes.
Well, guess I will have to have my Aldermen, come down an see what is going on here. One night this year, police and undercover NARC's stopped a car for drugs and took the person to jail. So they know what type of people are coming done this street. The night they did this, no one came down this street for 6 hours. Yes, this is on video. A car started to come down this street when this action happened an it turned around and went back up the street instead of taking the side street at the top of the hill. Why, probably because it had drugs also.
Well, nothing has changed, this is still happening. I think one way to let people know what the rules are in Kingston, is to increase the fines. I think about five dollars might do the trick. This way it will be printed in the Kingston Daily Freeman. In fact I think a full print of all the rules for Kingston should be put in the newspaper every couple of years. In this way most of the people will get notice's of what the rules and fines are for the city. I also think once I a while, the police should put a road block up and see what the cars have for correct inspection and registration stickers on this street and maybe have a little sniff of what the cars smell like inside. I've had cars stop here and people go up to the Rondout Plaza and get drugs from cars parked there then walk back down to Maple street.
I been told that a Bar is going to open up on the corner of Newkirk Ave and Delaware Ave. This is not going to help this situation and in fact probably make it worse.
Cars are still coming down and have not stopped at the stop signs and still playing loud music and speeding.
Cars are still coming down but now there are some that Play Loud Music because there drug dealers have been arrested and now there not stopping at the stop sign.
Almost had a kid coming down on a bike and was almost hit by a car. Kids don't stop on bikes at the stop sign either. Might need to have a camera set up by the police department or city so these people can be given tickets by observation on camera because if anyone of these people see a car behind them they obey the law just in case it might be a police car, especially at night. This camera will bring a few extra $$ to the city to have it used for other things.
Cars are still doing the same thing. I also think a "Street Closed During Snow" should be done on Newkirk Ave, because of this problem an the speed reduced to 15 MPH.· Reported by Sal Musso · Flag Flagged
1560 Rte 9 Lake Katrine, NY 12449, USAPeople are using the shoulder of the road at Adams Fairacre Farm as a turning lane. If one turns from the traffic lane, one risks being hit by a car traveling on the shoulder. This is a dangerous situation. Either mark the shoulder as off limits or put in a right turn lane for the safety of everyone!· Reported by Sharon Hoferer · Flag Flagged
204 West Chestnut Street Kingston, NY 12401An abandoned house owned by an out of state mortgage company is in disrepair and overcome by weeds to the extend that it looks like a jungle. There are broken down fences and an abandoned pool which is a real safety issue. I have reported this and nothing has changed.· Reported by JS · Flag Flagged
2 Westbrook Lane Kingston, NY 12401With all the foot traffic that comes and goes from both egresses to the Kingston Plaza, I would love to see the plaza become more pedestrian accessible. Crosswalks, pedestrian right of way signage, a sidewalk or walkway for both entrances. As someone who frequently walks to the plaza with my daughter to shop, I am constantly on guard for speeding cars, people who are taking turns too quickly/tightly, and those who are not paying attention in general. There is no place for me to safely cross from Clinton Ave. into the plaza from either entrance, and no place to cross from the sidewalk on Westbrook Lane into the plaza (or for that matter- no way to safely reach the businesses in the plaza). Has this issue been introduced previously? Is it a matter of privately owned and maintained property? What action needs to be taken to see this addressed?· Reported by Uptown Mother · Flag Flagged
592-698 Delaware Ave Kingston, NY 12401, USASpeeding traffic on Hasbrouck Avenue, illegal turns onto Livingston Street and cars going the wrong way on the Delaware Avenue one way street have created many fender benders here. Also cars trying to pass on Hasbrouck Avenue (heading toward East Chester Street) have crashed numerous times into a telephone pole on the SIDEWALK.
What would be a plausible solution? A traffic circle? Speed bumps? A four way traffic light?· Reported by Hasbrouck Avenue Citizen · Flag Flagged

131 Pine Grove Ave Kingston, NY 12401, USAI walk the pine grove area with my pets and friends and enjoy the peacefulness but during the winter i do understand how the middle has to be for snow to pile up, but then the sidewalks by peoples homes are usually cleaned to walk. I am very upset that i can walk to the end of pine grove but have to get off the sidewalk at 129 Pine Grove; walk the road that is narrow as it is and then Get back on at 133 Pine Grove cause 131 isnt clearing their side walk infront of their home, it is full of ice and snow. how safe is that to have to either walk on ice/snow or walk on the road with cars comming. where is our taxpayer dollars going for the code enforcement or buidling safety.. ?· Reported by Anonymous · Flag Flagged
490 Delaware Ave Kingston, NY 12401, USA
This street has become a dragstrip and a danger to anyone living or using the street. In just a 1/4 mile strip there is a school, a church, a church building used weekly for bingo, a heavily used hall, a bar, a salon, a pizza parlor, and two delis. In my 16+ years of living here, I have seen at least a handful of accidents every year. I've seen multiple pets struck and killed. I have even seen a child hit by a speeding car. There is another post on here about the dangers of exiting Second Avenue. The same can be said for when turning up Delaware from the street next to the White Eagle. There are two simple things that would virtually eliminate both problems. One involves no new equipment. Just a reprogramming of what is already there.
First, the light at Murray and Delaware should never be made a blinking YELLOW light for Delaware Avenue traffic. This gives a straight run from the Delaware turn by Poppy's Pizza all the way to the S-turns near Hasbrouck Park with nothing to slow traffic. Anyone who thinks a YELLOW light will slow traffic is just being naive. A flashing RED light, or better yet, a light that stays RED until you approach it, would solve that sections speed problem.
Second, there needs to be a three-way blinking RED light at the intersection of Delaware And Second Ave. Not STOP signs. Many of the patrons of the local businesses have large trucks that would block the signs. There are far too many businesses in that small strip for there to be nothing to slow traffic. We certainly can't expect the patrons of the businesses to find somewhere else to park. A three-way blinking RED light would not only slow traffic, but would guarantee a safe entry on to Delaware from Second Ave. which solves both problems.· Reported by Jason Smith · Flag Flagged
Glen St Kingston, NYThis is an otherwise pleasant, residential street that dead ends at Golden Hill Nursing Home. The only stop sign is about a half mile from the GH entrance, at the corner of Marius & Greenkill. Cars and trucks zoom along our street, seemingly without regard for the children and other residents. Is there anything that can be done to ensure safety-- speed bumps, a lowered speed limit sign, etc?· Reported by ohwhatachristy · Flag Flagged
