    We've yet to see the second pass for leaf collection on Western Avenue. The Leaf Collection Status map on the DPW website makes it appear we have been covered, but only the interior streets have seen collection. The schedule is already room weeks behind, although in previous years the schedule included a third pass (which we never saw). So, it appears we reduced the passes by 1/3 and have still failed to come close to meeting the schedule. In the real world, someone would lose their job for this level of performance. Probably will get a bonus though. Wake up, DC. This is an annual failure!

    Trash collected, but recycling container not touched. Due to holiday, Thursday collection was to occur today.

    Service Request Number 16-00601266 reporting missed recycling collection was closed yesterday in error. No contact occurred nor was recycling collected. This resolution was service in name only. Cans are NOT permitted to remain at the curb throughout the week. If contact is not made, the container will not be at the curb for collection. Regular pickup is day after tomorrow, so please ensure that it's not missed for the third week in a row. Color me unhappy with services.

    Not sure what has happened but our recycling that was religiously picked up every Thursday morning is now picked up in the afternoon, if at all. As we were going out of town last week, I had to pull the can back from the curb so it wouldn't sit there until our return. So this week, a very full container was placed at the curb for pickup and I saw the crew drive right past it. Seems like a different crew and they seem to be running the route backwards. The container is being placed in the exact same place it has been put every week for 21 years. This needs to be fixed now.

    It's time for my annual rant about the fact we're overlooked again on the first pass of leaf collection. There is a small pocket here on/near Western that continues to be neglected. It's especially irritating to look across the street and watch our Montgomery County neighbors getting good service for their tax "contributions", while we play this waiting game in the District. We're now a week and a half past the end date for the first pass in our zone. What must be done? I hate driving around looking for one of the supervisors, but will soon if not resolved. Perhaps Mary Che's office could be of assistance.

    Although the online leaf collection status map shows we've had our first pass, I assure you it has not occurred to date. At this point in the schedule we should be seeing the second pass. This seems to be routine here, so why waste taxpayer money printing slick brochures and mailing to each household only to do something different? We go to the trouble to get the leaves to the tree box area, only to have traffic and wind send them back into the yard.

    Mature American Elm tree on corner of Western Ave and Chesapeake has been neglected badly. There are multiple large broken limbs hanging in the tree or resting on a Holly that's close by. There are also LARGE limbs overhanging our house. Efforts to have this addressed years ago received unsatisfactory attention. Request a visit by the District Arborist to assess/discuss.

    As part of a traffic calming plan for Western Ave NW, parking space markings were applied approximately 10 years ago and have seen no maintenance since. They helped visually narrow the street and slow traffic. They badly need maintenance, now.
