The new centerline on Grove St. is a problem. Going northbound, it is impossible to drive to the right of the new yellow lines, as there isn't enough room to get by the parked cars on the east side (parking is not allowed on the west side). The line was painted in the middle, leaving plenty of room going southbound, but not nearly enough room going north. It's psychological: as drivers, we are trained not to cross a double yellow center line, so it now feels like being encouraged, channeled you might say, to pass dangerously close to the parked cars. We must choose either to squeeze past them—risking clipping them—or cross the center line. Formerly, there was no center line, and traffic going both ways gave way to whoever needed the space. Given the limitations of the street, no center line was the best design.

Just this morning, 9/10/20, there was a crash on the street. I don't know if it was due to the new lines, but I know in my own experience as a driver that it's now more difficult to navigate this street with the contraint of this (misplaced) center line. And, when traffic backs up between 4:30 and 5:15pm weekdays, all cars will be straddling the yellow line. It makes no sense. Please paint over the yellow center line in the densely settled part of the street and return it to an unstriped state. Thank you for listening, and considering my request.

Potholes/poor pavement condition along curb: between 666 riverside ave and the corner at Intervale ave intersection, the pavement condition is bad both along the edge of the curb on the north side of the street, and bad in the east bound lane alongside the parked cars on the south side. It’s especially difficult for bikes to navigate in this very narrow stretch: whether traveling East or west, the pavement is rough. There are a couple of deep holes that especially need to be tended to.

The edge of the road from North Winoosski Ave (Community Health Center) to Intervale Avenue is deeply rutted and bumpy on the north side (south side, for at least some of the way, has parking). It's hazardous for bikes, especially heading into winter. The ruts run along the edge of the public housing property.

A lot of debris came down on Colechester Avenue in the big windstorm, especially in the hilly section from centennial field down to the Winooski bridge. It could use a big sweep.

On Colchester Avenue heading down the hill to Winooski, in front of the new sidewalk along the cemetery, there is a long deep crack parallel to the sidewalk that's hazardous to bicycles. I wrote about it on SeeClickFix last year, and it got worse over the winter. I've added comments to my original posting, asking for it to be repaired, but I haven't heard anything back.

This is a new posting. It would be great if this crack could be repaired before winter! It's treacherous.

I reported this issue a couple of months ago, and a DPW crew did come and fill a crack in the roadway. But it was in the middle of the road where cars go, not by the curb where I ride on my bike. Here's the original description:

When the new sidewalk on Colchester Ave was installed, it appears the asphalt next to the new curbing was patched into the existing asphalt. Now the seam is a widening crack running parallel to the sidewalk and travel lane, about a foot out from the curb. It's treacherous for bikes.

  • Grove St. In Front Of Schmanska Park Burlington, Vermont - Burlington Electric

Cars traveling from S. Burlington on Grove St. are slowed by the speed bump in front of Schmanska Park. However, because there's no curbing along the long edge of the Schmanska Park parking lot, some drivers avoid the speed bump by swerving into the parking lot., then back out into the road. This is really dangerous for anyone standing in the parking lot or walking along the edge of the parking lot where it connects to the sidewalk. The edge of the parking lot needs a barrier, perhaps concrete blocks? Next year it will be rebuilt when the SD Ireland project goes in, but it's dangerous now!
