  • Leydecker Park - Alameda
The hot water is out at Leydecker and the pilot light needs to be lit. I'm told this happens when doors are opened, breeze comes through and blows it out. Can we put weather stripping or something here to stop it from happening? Thanks! Shawn

Hi guys, I'm wondering if someone can do a sweep for trash outside the perimeter of the Vets Building. There's a computer someone has dumped on the main stairs, and trash all around the building, especially on the Walnut side, someone has been sleeping there and leaving lots of trash in the stairwells, grass, etc. Thanks.

Please lock the basketball hoop at McKinley Park. There is no signage that the court is closed, and the net and hoop are up as normal. People are playing basketball at McKinley all day while we are telling our own teen program at McKinley that the court is closed and that they can't use it. I'm also telling multiple ARPD Contractors who are proposing basketball camps that they can't use hoops, when the reality is that there are hoops in our parks that are being used, and are accessible to the public.

A homeless woman is staying under staircase at Vets. Bldg, and regularly strews trash and clothing around the property. She is staying directly outside of a room being treated for mold - it is unsafe for her. Thanks, Shawn - ARPD

This seems to be a popular spot to dump old furniture. The chair is in front of the Underground Teen Center at the Vets. Bldg.

Someone is sleeping in the back stairwell of the Vet's Bldg., and they have left belongings there that need to be removed. I am told the protocol is to report to police, who pick up the items. We have an ongoing issue with folks using the stairwell to smoke/ drink (mostly high school students) and also sleep. It is directly outside of our Teen Center back door - and is a safety concern for our participants. Thanks - Shawn, Alameda Rec. and Park Dept.

The leak in the Teen Center has not been repaired, although I saw that some cement was patched on the stairs. The cement does not cover the spot where it seems water is coming from. Can you please provide an update on the repair? Currently, the entrance to the Teen Center is closed because it is unsafe to use. The Teen staff cleans up the puddle every day with a shop-vac, but it just fills back up - every day, regardless of whether it rains, or not. The water comes in to the Teen Center from the entrance, and has to be cleaned up every day as well. It is a safety hazard for staff and youth participants.

The stairwell drain by the apt. Building on east side of Vet's Building is clogged, standing water about 1.5 ft., will flood the teen center soon once it reaches the door threshold. Can someone please clear it today? If it rains this weekend, the Teen Center will flood and we'll be in a tough spot next Tuesday. Thanks for your attention. - Shawn, ARPD
