5712 Payne St Shawnee, KS, 66226, USA - Shawnee
> I am a resident of Western Shawnee in the Grey Oaks subdivision. We have a problem on our street that's failed to be addressed after multiple calls. A neighbor at the end of our street with the address 5712 Payne Street, Shawnee KS 66226, planted a tree several years ago on the corner of their property near the intersection. The tree is overgrown and has created very limited visibility at the intersection from both sides. The stop sign and street sign are also barely visible.
> Oncoming traffic from either side struggles to see around the tree. Bikers cannot be seen at all on Payne Street when near the intersection, making it extremely dangerous. After my 16 year old daughter was nearly hit on her bike, (making her the third child that's almost been hit by a car at this intersection) I approached the neighbors and asked kindly if they would consider cutting back the tree or offered that we would be happy to do it if they weren't able to. (This makes me the third neighbor to make this request.) She became very confrontational and the gist of it is, their stance is that if a child is hit, it is the car's fault, the child's fault for not being on the sidewalk or the parent's fault for not supervising closely enough; not the tree's fault. I stated that it's difficult to see even in a vehicle from both sides and they refused to budge. We have a lot of delivery drivers and food delivery cars that go up and down our street way too fast. I cannot control them. My family has the right to ride our bicycles on our street safely and that is not the case.We have several teenage drivers on our street that are just learning to drive and the limited visibility makes it incredibly difficult for them.
> Our entire street is extremely concerned about this and we have no other option since the homeowners won't even consider our concerns. We are not being unreasonable with our concerns. I'm speaking on behalf of 6 houses on our street and the cross street. It' s legitimately dangerous. Is it possible that something can be done? Can someone come out to examine the situation? Or please point me to the right person?
