    Hello,

    My wife and I ride our bikes past this tree almost every evening.

    Over the past 2 weeks, the tree has started making a cracking sound. The base of the tree has rapidly rotted away, and there is a crack that has formed going up the tree approximately 6 feet.

    The tree itself is leaning away from the road, but all of the upper growth of the tree is hanging directly over the road. When it falls, I can't tell if it is more likely to fall into the wooded area, or onto the roadway.

    The tree appears to be dead, and if it falls towards the road, it will definitely present a major hazard.
