Sign for "Massachusetts Avenue" at intersection is badly damaged and needs to be replaced.
  • Alewife Station Access Rd Cambridge, MA, 02140, USA - North Cambridge

On Alewife Station Access Road, vehicles traveling to/from Alewife Station — including MBTA buses, commuter parking users, and passenger drop-offs/pick-ups — encounter heavy traffic during peak hours. This is primarily caused by drivers misusing Alewife Station Access Road in order to cut around the Route 2 / Route 16 interchange.

Alewife Station Access Road has a single lane and cannot handle the heavy volume of through traffic it sees daily. MBTA buses can spend up to 10 minutes on the access road reaching the station during peak hours, which takes about 30 seconds late in the evening with no other traffic. Vehicles will often divide into two lanes along this road, which cannot be done safely.

Please install traffic barriers that would aim to prevent this misuse of this access road. In particular, the left turn just before the station (at the pinned location) should be blocked, as it expressly serves to allow highway traffic to bypass the interchange.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Alewife Brook Pkwy Massachusetts, USA - North Cambridge
All of the streetlights along Alewife Brook Parkway are out — starting after the Route 2 intersection and going north all the way to the Somerville city limit. (There is an exception: the few lights located immediately by the intersection with Massachusetts Avenue are operating correctly.) This was noticed at 6:30 pm today; it was well after dark. Please have this repaired. Thank you!
  • Mystic Valley Parkway Medford, Massachusetts - Medford

The posted speed limit signs along Mystic Valley Parkway in Medford are highly inconsistent, which I believe contributes to aggressive driving on this street.

    Going westbound:
    • Mystic Valley Parkway starts with traffic entering from I-93 and from Main Street. At the point where this traffic merges, the speed limit is posted as 30 mph. https://goo.gl/maps/soV4peucFik
    • 300 feet later: the speed limit changes to 25 mph. https://goo.gl/maps/kQepbKmtZ7K2
    • 0.3 miles later: the speed limit changes to 30 mph. https://goo.gl/maps/83TgB1g2GCF2
    • 0.3 miles later: the speed limit changes to 25 mph. https://goo.gl/maps/2r13zFdwHMv
    • 0.5 miles later (after crossing into Somerville): the speed limit changes to 35 mph. https://goo.gl/maps/niDHrg5zNdM2

    Going eastbound:
Along the entire route described above, there is not a *single* speed limit sign in the opposite direction on Mystic Valley Parkway. 450 feet beyond the final location mentioned above (in Somerville), the speed limit going eastbound is posted as 25 mph. https://goo.gl/maps/1zqFjK3yJu42

The speed limit should not be posted differently on each side of the street. There is also no reason for the speed limit to change so frequently going westbound — if it should change at all. When some drivers follow the speed limit and speed up/slow down frequently, this aggravates other drivers who decide to aggressively zip past them in the other lane.

I would *strongly* encourage you to choose *one* speed limit for all of Mystic Valley Parkway in Medford, and then post speed limit signs accordingly (removing or replacing existing signs as appropriate).

Thank you very much for taking the time necessary to address this.

  • 150 5th St Cambridge, MA 02141, USA - East Cambridge
The LED streetlight does not work.
  • 374 Third St Cambridge, MA 02142, USA - Mit
The button for pedestrians to cross 3rd Street (from the Microsoft building, going north) is stuck and cannot physically be pressed. Please have this repaired. Thank you!
  • Dr Paul Dudley White Bike Path Cambridge, MA 02139, USA - Mit
Part of the asphalt has broken away here. The sidewalk jumps up several inches at the bridge that crosses the railroad tracks, and the asphalt is needed here to flatten out this jump at the edge of the bridge. Please fill in the asphalt. This currently makes it very difficult for wheelchairs to pass. Note: this issue is for the east side of the bridge.
  • Dr Paul Dudley White Bike Path Cambridge, MA 02139, USA - Mit
The sidewalk immediately jumps up 3" before it goes above the railroad tracks. This is completely impassable for wheelchairs. It seems to have been caused by expansion/contraction against the bridge over a long period of time.
  • 367 Third St Cambridge, MA 02142, USA - East Cambridge
The entire signpost (with sign) is laying on the ground. It needs to be remounted. This is southbound on 3rd Street, at the intersection of Broad Canal Way. (It is directly across the street from Za.) See photo.
  • 223 Binney St Cambridge, MA 02142, USA - East Cambridge
There is a decorative pole at the intersection of Binney Street and 5th Street (northwest corner, where BioGen is). There are two lights on this pole (one hanging over each street). Both lights are out.
  • 125 6th Street Cambridge, Massachusetts - East Cambridge
There is a gated parking lot for the Cambridge Police Department across 6th Street from the main entrance (it is at the location pinned on the map). There are several halogen lamps in this parking lot which are completely out, or which cycle on and off; many of them are in the center of the lot. Additionally, several other lamps in this parking lot are very dim. While the parking lot itself is not open to the public, these lighting problems make this entire block noticeably dark at night. Please have all of the lights in this parking lot checked and repaired as needed. Thank you!
  • 6th Street & Thorndike Street Cambridge, Massachusetts - East Cambridge
This is a metal pole which is missing a pole number (it is right at the northwest corner of the intersection of 6th Street and Thorndike Street). The LED street light on this pole is out.
  • 49 6th Street Cambridge, Massachusetts - East Cambridge
There are two lights on this same pole: an LED light overhanging 6th Street; and a box-shaped halogen spot lamp facing the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. Both lights are out.
  • 150 5th Street Cambridge, Massachusetts - East Cambridge
This LED street light is out.
  • 190 5th Street Cambridge, Massachusetts - East Cambridge
This LED street light is out. (It is in front of the visitor parking entrance to 190 5th Street, as marked on the map.)
  • 154 Elm Street Cambridge, Massachusetts - North Cambridge
The street light on Beech Street (metal pole # 6) — which is located on the side of the house at the corner (154 Elm Street) — is largely obstructed by leaves that are overgrown around the LED lamp. This area of the street is quite dark because of it. Please prune this tree enough to allow more light in this area, particularly in the direction of Elm Street where cars are turning onto Beech Street.
  • 822 Somerville Ave Cambridge, Massachusetts - North Cambridge
This street light is out. It is a halogen light on a black decorative pole, located in front of the main entrance to the former Walgreens (now unoccupied).
  • 18 White Street Cambridge Massachusetts - North Cambridge

White Street becomes a one-way street after the entrance to the Porter Square Shopping Center (by CVS). There is a single "Do Not Enter" sign on the left side of the street, but it is offset to the left of the sidewalk and it is close enough to the brick sign for the Porter Square Shopping Center that it can be confusing or sometimes missed altogether. (As a passenger in a car, a number of drivers have surprisingly asked me if that sign means they are not supposed to turn left into the shopping center, or not supposed to continue straight on White Street.) As recently as three days ago, I continue to see cars go all the way down White Street the wrong way; and I constantly see bicycles go this way as well. This is a congested area with a lot of foot traffic, and going the wrong way down the street is particularly dangerous without people turning to look as they cross. There is no room to pass traffic that is going the correct way. To illustrate this, last week a sequence of eight "No Parking Any Time" signs were installed very close to each other at the far end of the street (facing the direction of traffic), seemingly in response to the street having become blocked even though it should be obvious that parking is not allowed there.

Could you please install another "Do Not Enter" sign across the street from the existing one in order to increase safety in this area? There is already a pole at the appropriate spot which has a parking sign facing traffic going the opposite way; I believe that a "Do Not Enter" sign could be mounted on the back side of this same pole, and in this case there would not need to be another pole installed.

Also if it is possible to do this, it would be much clearer if the existing sign was moved so that the pole is installed directly into the sidewalk right at the curb. (The 8 parking signs that were installed last week were all installed exactly this way. There was no work done on the end of the street where the Do Not Enter sign is located, however.)

A photo of this intersection and the existing sign/poles can be seen here: https://goo.gl/maps/GaE4kwrYYeo

    Thank you.
