34th Street and 2nd Ave crosswalk next to old Publix not working. Waited 12 minutes before crosswalk lights would come on today. Please follow-up with Chris Stansel, 813-943-1996.

Neighbor Edward Cunningham called regarding imbalanced traffic signal timing at NW 34th St & NW 53rd Ave. The timing seems to favor 53rd Ave, with 34th Street consistently backed up with traffic. Please call Mr. Cunnighham regarding a resolution at (352)870-1321.

Sidewalk not leveled, trip over this yesterday and fell. This was repaired previously but still not properly fixed. Concerned about children playing among other safety issues. Please contact, Luis Tulla (352)214-7150

A neighbor called regarding tree limbs that were left/skipped for two consecutive weeks even though these were cut up as required for waste pickup.

Sidewalk was damaged by the roots of an old Canopy Tree and continues to worsen. Concerned about the entrance to the home from the sidewalk. The tree might also need to be removed.

NE 23rd Ave recently restriped and lines are crooked. Work wasn't done properly. In addition to being crooked, lines are smudged.

Danielle Rayner called regarding trash can located in RTS bus stop. Trash overflowing and is not regularly picked up. 352-335-7275

Mr. Quinton Mandrell called regarding Mosquitos being very bad in NE area.

Mr. Joseph Rentz of 2425 SE 9th Place called regarding trash on the street by his home due to dumping. Location off of 25th Terrace and Hawthorne Rd.

Traffic Lights at the intersection changes over too quickly. Only 2 cars can go through at a time before the light changes.

Commissioners -

I am not a City resident, but a long time resident of the county and owner of a business which performs building services within the city,county, and region. I don't know if you are aware of what I am about to describe, but if so, have you considered the consequences?

It has come to my attention that Central Builders Supply - a business with which I have had an account for almost 40 years - is moving from their present location at the NE corner of NW 23rd Ave and 6th Street. Apparently, actions by codes enforcement would impose costs on them
which they cannot justify - they rent the property from ABC Liquor/Lounge - and so they will close their doors at the end of October and relocate in a facility much less favorable to them and, one would imagine, to the City. The building they will be leaving had been vacant and derelict for several years before they took it over and their presence has been good for the neighborhood and them - they have a very active walk-in business, something they previously lacked at their old location on SR 121. The odds are good that the space will become derelict again and the move may result in CBS ultimately permanently closing their doors.

CBS is a long time locally family owned business with local employees. The big box building supply stores like Home Depot and Loew's are the tide that CBS and Contractor's Supply on Waldo Road are swimming against. Is it not in the cities interest to provide flexibility in their enforcement rules to help these businesses, help the neighborhood, and help the city? How much in the way of tax breaks would a larger business win if you negotiated with them to locate here. The phone number at CBS is 372-1111. I remember it because I've used it for 40 years. I hope i don't find it disconnected in a month or two.

Hello Commissioners!
Thank you for all the long hours and dedicated attention to so many important issues. I just have observed a couple things I thought I would share. The stank, rotting, overflowing dump to the SW of the downtown library is nasty. The couple of dumpsters are poorly hidden by a unsightly privacy fence. It smells like rotting food as I believe the restaurants use them; and frequently there is loose trash blowing around the parking lot that the dump is housed in. If the dumpsters are full trash gets piled up either inside the fence or outside. It’s such a prominent location in our downtown and it’s not a good look. In my opinion.
I also have observed how filthy the trash bins are around the Hippodrome and Sun Center, I did not observe any bags or liners and have seen them overflowing with trash. Maybe a good pressure wash could be beneficial.

Citizen, Mark Cowan called today regarding city mowers low stripping the grass on the ground in the area of SE 20th ( Between Hawthorne Rd and 2nd Ave.). Mr. Cowan notes this is causing erosion and dirt getting into the drain/s in that community. He was extremely upset and noted this is an ongoing issue that he hasn’t been able to resolve and he has reached out to the City Commission.
