This particular 'school zone, 25mph' flashing light has not been in operation for some time. Please verify functionality. The other school zone lights on Milham and Constitution appear to be working OK.

It appears someone has erected a makeshift traffic control sign. It does not appear to be a sign adhering to the city's normal style of sign.

For the past week there have been some large hornets (or other large stinging insect) swarming the sidewalk and street. Today there were at least a dozen of them swarming us as we walked by. I also saw signs of a possible underground nest by the sidewalk.

We are concerned about the safety of pets and children. Signs of the hornets have been seen a few houses down the street.

LM Lawn Service Inc plows a number of driveways in the neighborhood. They remove snow from driveways and push it into the streets. Not only does it cause a hazard for cars, but this means the snow plows then push that snow into the next houses driveway.

They also do not have an orange light on their vehicle like most snow plowing vehicles. I'm not sure if this is a requirement.

A large tree branch broke and fell onto some cars and into he road. It was removed from the cars, but remains in the road. It is off to the side and not impeding traffic, but too large for a home owner to move.

since school has started, homeowner has been leaving dogs outside all day long. The dogs can be heard barking non-stop from far away between 7:30am to 2pm. There were even some days where health and safety of the dogs may have been a concern from the extremely hot days.

  • 7301 Garden Ln Portage, MI 49002, USA - Portage
Left turn arrow to turn of Westnedge to Garden is not working. Sat through 5 cycles with cars backed up on Westnedge and never received a left turn arrow. Also, the traffic signal was turning red for Westnedge traffic very frequently even though there were no cars on Garden. This was causing a mess of traffic and never let cars proceed onto Garden due to all the North bound Westnedge traffic.
  • 1220 Romence Rd Portage, MI 49024, USA - Portage
traffic light at Constitution and Romence should be checked. At 8:30pm on Nov 23 it was not detecting or changing for vehicles exiting Constitution. it remained green only for Romence traffic.
  • 1151 W Milham Ave Portage, MI 49024, USA - Portage
The traffic light leaving North Middle School is extremely short. Two weeks into the school year and traffic is extremely backed up due to the very short signal. During construction the light exiting the middle school was much longer, but since the start of the school year only 3 cars can make it through the light before the light turns red.

  • 6528 Hampton St Portage, MI, 49024, USA - Portage

Home owner of 6528 Hampton is driving on Consumers Energy property, with a company truck, which is also partly the Portage Parks bike path, to dump wood. It also appears they have extended their personal property into the Consumers Energy owned land.

Viewing this location on the Portage GIS website you can actually see their business truck and two trailers on Consumers property, and how the vehicle tracks are adjacent to the Parks path.

The median barrier located on Milham just before Westnedge should really be extended or yellow barrier posts (plastic kind) should be installed. There are two issues which need to be addressed:

    1) East bound Milham traffic wishing to turn into the Panera parking lot perform a u-turn at this location, sometimes even needing to perform a 3-point turn right in the middle of the road. This is indicated by the red arrow in my attachment.

    2) Traffic exiting Panera sometimes performs a left hand turn to proceed east on Milham, causing them to drive on the wrong side of the road. This is indicated by the blue arrow.

A day does not go by where I see this occur even though the "no u-turn" and "no left turn" signs are posted.

I'm not sure why the median was cut short, it seems like if it was extended 6'-12' it would have easily prevented this.

With the understanding that extending the concrete median could come at a cost, and not easy to do right before winter, would it be possible to install those 3'-4' tall yellow barrier posts (unsure of exact name). They are the ones attached to concrete, flex when hit by a car or snow, and should be fairly inexpensive to install. The green bar in my photo shows the desired location to add some sort of barrier/deterrent.

Far too many people make these illegal u-turns causing close calls or increasing traffic congestion.

As reported in issue ID 4261783 there is a concern for speeding on Milham, specifically between Westnedge and Oakland Dr.

A day does not go by where someone passes me doing at least 45mph, if not 50mph. As someone who drives this road at least 4 times per day, many times more, I have only seen a police officer with speed traps only a couple times, one of which was the first day of school.

While I am not in favor of unnecessary speed traps, this stretch of Milham continues to be a drag strip and a concern. Furthermore, no one seems to ever pay attention to the Constitution/Milham intersection traffic light. Either 3 cars on Constitution heading for West bound Milham run the red light, or distracted drivers on Milham blow through red lights/slam on their brakes last minute.

This is a school zone so it would be great to see traffic slowed down, though I do not think school times are problematic given the traffic congestion. It would be great to see increased presence of Police Officers during off-peak school times, such as 8am-2pm and 4pm-8pm.
