  • Street Lamp Kinilala
20 Edgehill Rd New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Prospect Hill
    Hi,
I'm writing to follow up on Issue #14771275 (https://seeclickfix.com/issues/14771275) because that issue was closed by the City I'm not sure how to reopen it. I had originally written because street lamp across the street from us shines into our bedroom windows, and the City responded very quickly to send a crew out and look at the problem. According to the transportation department post, they made some repairs, however that did not solve the problem, unfortunately, so I'm hoping there is something more that can be done. We had a similar problem several years ago when we lived on Whitney Ave, and the City installed a metal glare shield on the lamp, which completely solved the problem then. I wonder if we couldn't have a similar shield installed here. (We live across the street from this lamp, so it is the street-facing (east) side of the lamp that we are hoping could be shielded.) Many thanks.

The street lamp on this pole seems brighter than necessary and it shines directly into our bedroom windows. (We live at 23 Edgehill, on the opposite side of the street from the lamp.) Would it be possible to install a glare shield on the side facing the street (the east side of the lamp)?

A few nights ago a car (coming from Willow Street) crashed into the guy-wire for utility pole 11686 and an adjacent no-parking sign. I'm not sure if the guy-wire sustained any significant damage, but the no parking sign was knocked over.

    Hi,
We live at 484 Whitney Ave (west side of Whitney Ave), and the street light across the street from us (east side of Whitney, pole #1008) is angled such that it shines directly into our 2nd-floor apartment. We had the same problem with the same street light about five years ago, and the DPW very helpfully installed a metal visor/shield on the west side (street side) of the light fixture that completely solved the problem. (For reference, including a photo of the visor, it was SeeClickFix ID: 3687068). But all the utility poles in the neighborhood are in the process of being replaced, and when the street light was reinstalled on the new pole, the visor was not included. Any possibility it could be put back again? It worked perfectly before.
    Thanks!

This street tree was recently removed, and I have been in touch with URI to arrange for a replacement to be planted, but they can't plant until the stump is removed. If the stump can be removed before the end of October, we can meet URI's deadline to request a new tree to be planted this fall. Otherwise, we'll have to wait till the spring.
    Thanks,

This tree appears to have died this summer and should be taken down. As soon as the city removes it, I will contact URI to request a suitable replacement.
    Thanks.

The zelkova in the tree belt in front of 498 Whitney Ave was hit by a car several years ago, and as a result, its trunk is badly damaged, and the tree seems to be deteriorating. Our condo association asked an arborist to look at it, and he advised that the tree is a hazard and should be removed.

  • 118-146 Church Street New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown
This tree has just begun to show some wilting on a number of branches, suggesting that it may have been infected by Dutch Elm Disease. (The elm directly to the north of it died recently.) Please have an arborist take a look this week, to see wether it is in fact DED, and if so, take appropriate action to prevent spread to adjacent trees.

Yet another tree on the New Haven appears to have contracted Dutch Elm disease. This is going to keep happening, if the city isn't faster about removing diseased trees.
