The light at Perkins and Parkman Drive (near Cabot Estates) causes massive traffic jams during the evening commute. It takes at least 10-20 minutes to get from Pond Ave through the intersection when it should take only 1. The new lights need to have their timing adjusted. Traffic gets backed up on Pond, Chestnut and Perkins, with very little coming from Parkman.
  • 140 Kent Street Brookline, Massachusetts - Brookline
The traffic light at the intersection of Kent and Aspinwall has poor timing in the evening. It seems backwards and counter to the traffic. Going South on Kent, approaching from Parsons Field, there is often a multi-cycle wait to get through the intersection. The cars coming north have an extended light, but there usually aren’t many of them at that time, leading to a period when cars are waiting on three sides but no one can move while the light is green for the side with no cars. The timing is the opposite in the morning, but doesn’t cause as long of a wait.

I drive home going westbound on the Kendrick St. bridge over Rt. 128. There is often a long back-up at the light at Third Ave. before the bridge. Most cars are going straight over the bridge, while many fewer take a left onto the highway going south. Is there really a need to have two lanes marked as left turn only onto the highway? Most cars have to squeeze into a single lane on the right going over the bridge only to spread out again at the light at Hunting/Greendale. Many cars also go straight from the middle lane, ignoring the left turn only markings and the stop light. This seems like a dangerous situation that isn’t necessary.
  • 60 Kendrick Street Needham, Massachusetts - Needham
With the new construction and interchange for Kendrick St., traffic now backs up at the light at the JCC in Newton all the way back to the bridge over 128 in the morning. The left lane on Kendrick going east is designated left turn only just before 4th St. It seems inefficient and causes a lot of merge problems. Would it be better to eliminate the left turn only signs and let traffic merge where it goes down to one lane at the Charles River bridge?
