Construction on Autumn Street has caused damage to the sidewalk, the ramp into our driveway, and the edge of the roadway.

In order to remove a sidewalk panel to access the water line to my house, the construction crew used a backhoe shovel to repeatedly bang on the sidewalk (it was like a series of earthquakes in our home). Not surprisingly, this signifiactly worsened existing cracks to several other panels and also caused new cracks. Edges are now sticking up and creating a trip hazard (please note that a family member is legally blind and that numerous other disabled people in our neighborhood, including several in wheelchairs, use Autumn St to access the T station).

In addition, the weight of construction vehicles has basically collapsed the edge of the roadway and has crushed the edge of the ramp from the street to my driveway. There is now a six inch deep depression on the edge of the ramp.

For some reason, the ramp to our driveway has always been asphalt, when it should be made of concrete. I don't know exactly what the plans are for the road surface and sidewalks once the project is done. But this would seem like a good time to:

    1. Repair the damaged sidewalk panels, and

    2. Repair the damage to our driveway entrance and install a proper concrete ramp.

I understand that damage happens during construction. I just want to make sure that it is taken care of before everyone moves on.

    Thank you.

I am concerned that this tree is at risk of being severely damaged by the wind. It is now leaning to the south as a result of soaked ground and constant wind pummeling it from the north. It needs to have a limb on its south side removed as soon as possible to rebalance it and to reduce the drag effect of the wind which is causing it to lean, and placing it at risk. It is a beautiful and fairly young tree which we are very grateful to have here and which needs to be protected. It was planted several years ago to replace another tree that was destroyed by an out of control driver who struck it and knocked it down while fleeing from the police. It would be an absolute shame to lose this one too. Thank you.

I am concerned that people are camping in the woods at the end of the parking lot of this property, behind the homes at 28, 32, and 36 Autumn St. My wife and I heard voices from that area at dusk last night. I heard them again this morning just after sunrise. I then saw a woman in the area this morning with a bicycle and a backpack. I was not going to post a photo to spare an obviously homeless person unnecessary embarrasment. However, I saw her discard an empty water bottle by tossing it in the lot. I asked her to pick it up and take it with her. She responded with a disgusting slur and a string of profanity. I called the police because of her aggressive and threatening response. MPD responded very quickly and were very helpful and professional. However she had left the area in the few minutes it took them to respond. I have posted her photo so other neighbors can be aware of her, especially given her level of aggression.

Please address the issue with the property owner. The neighborhood has had decades of issues with this property, including illegal dumping, probable drug dealing, noise pollution from people hanging out late at night, and intrusive light pollution from the high intensity lighting they added a few years ago (which now lights up my once peaceful backyard and my son's bedroom like the Vegas strip). That was installed to facilitate their illegal, unpermitted off-site parking operation, which, pre-pandemic at least, has operated consistently since before we moved in more than 20 years ago. The owner even issues parking "permits" to people who don't live there. There is a vehicle with such a "permit" parked there right now, in fact. Pre-pandemic, for as long as we have lived here, we could watch numerous vehicles every morning park there. The owners would exit their vehicles with backpacks, briefcases, and coffee mugs in hand and walk directly to the T station. While less common now, it still happens. No doubt, we're going to see that activity increase in coming weeks.

Even more concerning though, our neighborhood had a rash of burglaries several years ago. This wooded area is open to numerous back yards on Autumn St. In one instance, perpetrators were chased out of a home on Rosemont St. (which intersects Autumn) in the early morning by a resident -- an extremely dangerous and potentially deadly situation. The individuals used this location as a path to flee, and even dumped stolen property there.

The owner of 29 Winter needs to secure his property before we have another potentially more serious incident. He needs to fence this area off so it cannot be accessed or used as an access point for criminals to backyards on Autumn, or as an illegal campsite.

Again, thank you to the officers who responded. They were well aware of the property's history of problems and even told me about an incident involving a person found sleeping in the property's dumpster. So it's only a matter of time before something bad happens there.

I am reporting this here in addition to MPD because over the years the response from other city officials has been less than satisfactory. It has been completely inadequate and dismissive of resident's concerns, actually. It is time that city inspectors and other officials respond to the complaints about this problem property and take action concerning the numerous issues neighbors have raised over the years, rather than doing what they have done in the past, which has been to tell us every single time that what we see with our own eyes isn't happening.

    Thank you.

On 4/23/21 this material was left behind. I posted a request concerning it and my understanding that it is recyclable (no. 1 P.E.T.). I was provided a response by Steve saying specifically that it was and that he would speak to JRM. He even offered to pick it up. I didn't think a special trip was necessary, so I placed it out again this week. Again, it was left behind. I spoke with the JRM employee about it. He very politely explained that he has been trained that it is not acceptable. Which is it? Thank you.

Plow knocked the entire snow bank down directly into the middle of our cleared driveway. For absolutely no reason. The road was not even widened in the process.

Who is the guy on the bike and what is he doing? Is he from the city? He appears to be going from one sewer grate to the next dropping something in with some kind of tool. I asked the gentleman from parking enforcement who just happened to be there. He had no idea.

    1. Please instruct this worker to leave a reasonable distance between his vehicle and others when parking. His truck is literally three inches from my wife's car. There is plenty of room in front of his vehicle.

    2. Please instruct this worker not to litter. There is no excuse for this partially full iced coffee cup being left on the street, especially now. No one should have to touch that. Please have it removed.

    Thank you.

Total gridlock in the Autumn St. neighborhood again this morning. Residents can't even get out of their own driveways. These problems been going on a result of construction projects since summer 2018. We keep being told it will be over soon. When? Please do something. Residents of neighborhoods like ours should not have to live like this.

No permit, and the nose of the vehicle is less than a foot from the edge of my driveway. Thank you.

Another one, not even a block from the first. And BTW, who authorized Limebike to deploy motorized bikes? And why are motorized bikes on our sidewalks?
  • 34 Clifton St Malden, MA 02148, USA - Malden Ward 4
Square in the middle of the sidewalk. The rights of pedestrians and the disabled mean nothing to this company or to this city. Their rights are an inconvenience to them. You've had two years now. Get this right or get the bikes out of here altogether.

I just witnessed yet ANOTHER near head on collision caused by a reckless driver turning from Winter onto Autumn. This one drove past stopped traffic the full length of the block on Winter from Banks to Autumn on the wrong side of the double yellow, before nearly hitting a car head on turning right from Autumn onto Winter. This is CONSTANT during the evening rush hour, whenever the traffic backs up from Main. I have nearly been hit more times than I can count, as has probably just about every driver who lives in this neighborhood. The behavior is horrendously dangerous, not only for other drivers, but especially for pedestrians who have no reason to expect a car driving the wrong way. As I posted before, I saw a woman and two young children almost run over a few months back by a driver pulling this exact same stunt. The area is dangerous enough without this being tolerated. We need some enforcement here please. Between this and the drivers flying the wrong way up Kenmore as a short cut, it is only a matter of time before something very bad happens.

This vehicle has been parked like this on Autumn St since the beginning of last week. As you can see from the photo, and by comparison to the car in the background, the car is parked a considerable distance from the edge of the road, blocking part of the northbound travel lane. It's about two feet from the edge of the pavement, which is eroded an additional two feet. So the vehicle ought to be three to four feet over (like the one in the background). The position of the car also makes it unnecessarily difficult to back out of our driveway when we want to head north on Autumn. While there was a snowbank in place last week, it was understandable. But now that the snow is gone, and has been for several days, the owner needs to get his/her vehicle out of the travel portion of the road and park it properly on the side. We've been very patient and have held off on reporting in hopes that the owner will eventually return to the car and move it. But it hasn't happened. Thank you.
