While National Grid is paying the wages for the officers, that does not mean that it is without cost to the city. The city has invested significant resources in the training of these officers and incurs costs relative to the employment of each that are not recovered. In addition, there are a finite number of officers in the city. Having what is probably in excess of 5% of the department at National Grid at any given time takes officers away from other possible assignments. How often have we heard that we lack sufficient manpower for more intensive traffic enforcement, for example? And just last month, an engineer at a job site on Main told me that MPD had specifically cited the lockout as the reason for the unavailability of an officer at his location. So to say it is without cost is simply not accurate. End the lockout.

Mr. Mayor: We know you're there. We see you posting about potholes. Remember when you promised us all that you would bring "transparency" to our city government? Well then, why have you silenced an entire community? What are you hiding? Who are you hiding from? Our city government is supposed to be a democracy. But this is a move straight out of a banana republic.

Why can no one post a comment on ANY Malden related issue? I note that immediately prior to this happening, the city was taking some serious criticism over the mishandling of and misrepresentations related to hydrant flusing (most notably the apparently false claim of an "emergency" and the stubborn refusal to offer any information concerning the nature thereof). Why is the entire community being silenced?

Why is city government closed today? According to the recorded telephone greeting it is "in observance of the Labor Day holiday." Of course, that can't be accurate. Because Labor Day isn't until Monday. Why are taxpayers paying for a day off on this non-holiday when all we ever hear about from city officials whenever we ask them to address a problem is how broke the city is? I see that the mayor has been active here on SCF today reporting potholes. So perhaps he can answer the question. Given his campaign promises of transparency and accountability, I'm sure an answer will be forthcoming promptly.

Multiple bikes positioned by a Lime Bike employee only a few feet from the end of a disabled access ramp (foreground) and directly across the accessible path. Please not only remove the bikes, but also provide the employee with further education regarding accessible path/disabled access regulations. Thank you.

Another dangerous situation created on Autumn St. as a result of construction without a police detail or a reasonable traffic plan. Earlier, cars had been coming down Autumn from Winter, getting to the construction site that completely blocks Autumn, before having to turn around and head back to Winter. So the workers put up cones to block Autumn at the corner of Kenmore. I understand that they are trying to help and just want to get the work done. Unfortunately, now drivers are turning right on Kenmore at the cones and heading the WRONG WAY up to Main, with no warning to the drivers entering Kenmore from the very busy intersection at the other end. We have already had at least one accident in this area while traffic was rerouted, along with numerous close calls. We need a sensible and safe traffic plan for rerouted traffic, and some monitoring/enfrocement please before there is a serious accident.

This business is a daily repeat parking offender. Today they are parking on the sidewalk. Just saw a woman with two young kids and a dog all have to walk in the street to get around with significant vehicular traffic on the road.

Repeat offender. Cars and trucks must cross double yellow to get by. Particularly dangerous now with Main St traffic being periodically routed down Autumn to intersection with Winter. There was an accident just last week there.

We need a traffic detail at the intersection of Winter and Main. Twice in the past few days while traffic has been rerouted from Main, I have witnessed vehicles, whose drivers probably thought Autumn is one way, speed down the road passing stopped traffic on the left, nearly getting in head on collisions with vehicles turning onto Autumn from Winter. The situation is bad enough there on a normal day. With traffic rerouted, it is very dangerous. We just had an accident last week while traffic was detoured. I am particularly concerned about the risk to pedestrians. This a very busy and increasingly dangerous area even on the best of days. Please provide some traffic control/enforcement. Thank you.

I reported this issue yesterday evening. It was acknowledged. I understand that the city has not had much time to respond at this point. However, overnight the hole has grown significantly. It is now 3 ft long, 2 ft wide, and 18 inches deep. This is an incredibly serious hazard. I understand that it is Sunday. But this needs to be addressed before someone falls and is injured. Thank you.

I TOLD YOU THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. Over and over. Thankfully, it was two vehicles and not a pedestrian -- this time. Responsibility for this rests squarely on the shoulders of the city. I'll say it now again: We need some regular traffic enforcement on Autumn. And if traffic is going to be detoured through the neighborhood, as it was at the time of this accident, we need an officer directing traffic at Winter. Please.

We need a traffic officer at the intersection of Autumn and Winter please. Traffic has been rerouted due to construction on Main. As a result, traffic is backed up down Autumn as far as I can see. Rosemont is backed all the way to Main. Autumn is in complete gridlock. Residents are stuck. There needs to be an officer to hold traffic on Winter so that traffic can clear Autumn. Thank you.

We desperately need some traffic enforcement here on Autumn St. at the corner of Kenmore. Traffic heading north on Main is being rerouted down Kenmore and then north on Autumn before returning to Main. Cars are repeatedly running the stop sign at the end of Kenmore before turning onto Autumn. At least four out five cars are failing to stop. And around a half dozen cars are coming down Kenmore each minute. Now with rush hour beginning, we have the regular daily occurrence of cars flying up Autumn from Winter. Add to all of that the fact that Autumn has been narrowed by construction cones and you've got an accident waiting to happen. I called to report this to MPD a few hours ago and was told that an officer would be by to monitor the situation. But so far, I haven't seen one. The situation that we have here every day, with commuters speeding down the road, is bad enough without the added problem of additional vehicles and their impatient drivers being routed through the neighborhood. On the best of days, we need additional enforcement. With this new temporary traffic pattern it is absolutely essential. Thank you.

I previously reported this problem (almost a week ago). But I have received no response from Permits, Inspection, and Planning. I am requesting that this be forwarded to the city's ADA compliance officer, and to anyone else with oversight over matters such as this, and that action be taken promptly.

This is a blatant violation of the ADA, a misuse of a public sidewalk, a hazard to all pedestrians (not just the disabled), and simply a violation of common sense. I'm all for outdoor seating (like near the front door of the establishment) when there is sufficient room for it. But this is not OK. I cannot possibly imagine that the city has authorized this.

Nearly the entire pedestrian through zone, which should be at least five to seven feet wide, and under no circumstances should be less than four, has been taken for this private establishment's seating. What remains is a narrow strip roughly three feet wide to the curb. That not only obstructs wheelchair access but presents a serious risk to a person in one. The rope, which is tied to a city sign at one end, is at or below knee level (in fact, at times, the establishment allows it to rest on the ground), posing a trip hazard, especially to a visually impaired person. In addition, the planters to which the rope is attached are not affixed to the ground. Instead they are precariously balanced on stacked cement tiles. The whole thing is both illegal and a serious accident waiting to happen. It endangers not only those attempting to pass by, but also patrons of the establishment. Please address it before someone gets badly hurt. Thank you.
