At Pavonia & Homestead there is a Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacon (RRFB) installation that pedestrians can actuate when they want to cross Pavonia Ave.
There are two signals, one at each end of the crosswalk, which have yellow LED lights to warn oncoming vehicles.
A button is mounted on each pole below the beacons and signs.
Both sides normally flash when either button is pressed.

This is the ONLY signalized crosswalk in the middle of the 600 block of Pavonia Ave.

The north lights and button are not working.
The south lights abd button are working.
The lights on BOTH sides should flash when EITHER button is pressed, but they don't.
Only the lights on the south pole flash when the button is operated.
The lights on the north side of the street DO NOT flash.

Three new streetlight poles, each with two fixtures, one each for the roadway and sidewalk, are not lit.
They were installed more than a year ago when Central Avenue was extended from Hoboken Ave. to Newark Ave., but have never worked.
  • John F Kennedy Blvd & Journal Sq Jersey City, New Jersey, 07306 - Journal Square
The Kushner tower contractor removed most of the decorative globe street lamps along the east side of Bergen Ave. & JFK Boulevard.
There are only two working lights on the south end of the pedestrian path near Sip Ave. Otherwise, there is no direct illumination of the pedestrian path.
Because of the traffic barriers along the side of the path, the streetlights in the medium divider are inadequate to light the pedestrian path along the east side of the construction site.
The Kushner contractor must be compelled to install adequate lighting along the entire path, from Sip Ave. to the Journal Square PATH station.
  • John F Kennedy Blvd & Journal Sq Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square

As a result of the construction start on the Kushner towers on the east side of Bergen Ave. & JFK Boulevard at Journal Square, pedestrians have been pushed off the sidewalk into a narrow 5-ft. path. Complaints to Hudson County resulted in widening the path between the north crosswalk and the PATH station and setting back the construction fence at the two crosswalks.

This is being posted on both the Hudson County and Jersey City SeeClickFix websites because both have jurisdiction over the pedestrian walkway. Jersey City is responsible for the south crosswalk and Bergen Ave. Hudson County is responsible for the north crosswalk and JFK Boulevard.

The flimsy 6-ft. plastic barriers installed along the east side of the intersection will never stop an errant car traveling at 40MPH. There are (20) 6-ft. barriers spanning from south of the south crosswalk to north of the north crosswalk. This is where pedestrians are most vulnerable to errant cars turning left to proceed northbound on JFK Boulevard and where they have the least protection.

NONE of the plastic barriers are completely filled with water. 10 are maybe 2/3 full and the other 10 are empty. These barriers are supposed to be interlocked and pinned together through the holes in the ends. I counted a total of 6 pins.

Most of the empty 6-ft. barriers can be moved out of place by shoving them sideways. This will not protect pedestrians from an errant vehicle. ALL of these flimsy barriers should be replaced by NJ concrete barriers.

On the east side of the intersection, the north and south crosswalks are 12’ wide. The distance between them is 80’. At the north side of the north crosswalk, the south 6-ft. plastic barrier blocks 3’6” of the crosswalk. At the south side of the south crosswalk, the north 6-ft. plastic barrier blocks 9” of the crosswalk.

The Kushner contractor only used 20-ft. NJ concrete barriers. 10-ft. and 12-ft NJ barriers are readily available. The contractor must be compelled to install NJ concrete barriers along the entire length of the pedestrian walkway without restricting the width of the crosswalks.

The search and filter functions in SCF need fixing.

    https://seeclickfix.com/web_portal/PTzvqioTdUqpwQchKJx1dMyo/issues/map?lat=40.711599883126844&lng=-74.06478967188637&max_lat=40.725244790193486&max_lng=-74.0408858251457&min_lat=40.697952179318534&min_lng=-74.08869351862707&search=13019226&status=open%2Cacknowledged%2Cclosed%2Carchived&zoom=14

I previously could use the filter function and search for an Issue ID # and find what I was looking for. That doesn't work any more.

I use to be able to search for issues associated with a specific address. Markers on the map would show open, acknowledged, closed and archived issues. That doesn't produce any results now.

PLEASE FIX THE SCF SEARCH & FILTER FUNCTIONS!

PSE&G installed a new wood pole to reroute high voltage wires away from the construction site at 616 Pavonia.
The pole blocks the view of the RRFB on the south side of the crosswalk from eastbound drivers.
The RRFB should be moved east, to the other side of the crosswalk, where it will be more visible to oncoming eastbound drivers.
  • 624 Pavonia Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
This crosswalk was installed to replace the pitiful temporary crosswalk about 40 feet east, which has been removed.
    See Issue ID: 11865134
There is absolutely no signage to warn approaching drivers.

RRFBs and signage should be installed at this new crosswalk.
  • Pavonia Ave & Summit Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
This signal head was evidently damaged by construction equipment inside the Journal Squared 3 site on the southwest corner of Summit and Pavonia.
  • 620-634 Pavonia Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
This is a new "temporary" crosswalk installed more than 3 weeks ago.
It was put in to divert pedestrian traffic on the north side of Pavonia away from the construction site at 616 Pavonia (Homestead Place). See Issue ID: 11756659
Curb ramps for wheelchairs, etc. need to be installed on both sides of the street.
There is only one single small sign on the north side of the street: "Sidewalk Closed >> Cross Here".
Larger signs are needed on both sides, as well as large pedestrian crossing signage.
The 3 guy wires from the nearby wood pole obstruct half the crosswalk on the south side of Pavonia. They are a real hazard to pedestrians, especially the visually impaired.
The guy wires need additional plastic guards installed to protect pedestrians. Better yet, two signposts with metal sheets between them could be installed to completely block off the hazard.

RRFBs should be installed at this new crosswalk.
  • Newark Ave & Oakland Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
This sign was in the wrong location until it got run over. The sign warned that the sidewalk on Oakland Avenue was closed.
Oakland is one-way going southwest to northeast.
There is no sidewalk on the northwest side of Oakland.
There is a sidewalk on the southeast side of Oakland which is not closed.
This sign was originally placed on Newark Avenue across from the county administration building entrance to warn pedestrians that the sidewalk along the construction site between Oakland and Central is closed.
It got moved onto Oakland and then was damaged.
The sign should be replaced with a new sign to warn pedestrians that the sidewalk is closed.
  • 348 Baldwin Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
This "temporary" fencing is a permanent hazard to pedestrians.
It is constantly being blown out of position by the wind.
There are no posts in the ground behind it.
The only support is one piece of green stranded copper wire twisted around the permanent fence at the wall on the north end.
Three posts should be installed in the ground behind it and the fence should be securely fastened to the posts.
  • Homestead Pl & Pavonia Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
This Gate 2 fencing section was previously used to close the entrance to the work site. Now it has been used to obstruct the sidewalk and make it more difficult for pedestrians to navigate along the north side of the street.
The small "Sidewalk Closed" sign can easily be overlooked and the view seems to indicate that the sidewalk is navigable.
This restriction of the sidewalk serves no purpose and should be REMOVED.
  • Central Ave & Newark Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
This pedestrian push button was evidently hit and broke off the pole during the last snow removal.
It is on the corner where the county administration building is.

  • 282 Magnolia Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square

After Friday's 4-inch snowfall, the lot was plowed but the pedestrian walkway was neglected.

The path along the walkway next to the parking garage is iced over.

The north end of the path at the Pavonia Ave.sidewalk was also not cleared.

  • 823 Pavonia Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square

This is the only house on the whole block where no effort was made to remove the snow in a timely fashion. Now it is an icy hazard.
    They never clear the snow.
