Several weeks ago, a team from the fire department, a moderately large fire truck, and a staff member from Traffic and Parking checked out the right angle turn in Saginaw Avenue to determine whether a fire truck could, in an emergency, navigate the corner while cars were parked close to it.. The conclusion was quite obvious and the answer was "no" and that "Fire Lane" signs should be posted to keep parked cars off the street near that corner.

Although I asked in the 1970s whether there was a potential problem and never got a response, I did not report the issue this time. I just noticed and watched part of the testing.

So, now that the problem has been identified and we all get to worry about how possible fires would be fought, how much longer will it take to get those signs up? Or, if someone had decided that those tests don't count and the inability of a fire truck to turn the corner in an emergency is a non-issue, could the neighbors and abutters be informed so we can stop worrying?
