Homeowner behind Historic Black Church Mt Zion reports that tree was marked by county to be addressed, workers started cutting but marked it with a cone and nobody has addressed it since.

Tree was marked for removal due to being ash and is leaning over utility lines.

Received 15 March 2019 - family safety in residential/pedestrian commUnity continues to become increasingly dangerous. Please advise on below efforts:

Install reflectors in the middle of the road that will “bump” when people run over them, similar to the ones on many highways throughout the state:

Howard County does not install the raised reflective pavement markers that are on MDSHA owned and maintained arterials and expressways. We will explore this request with MDSHA. To submit a request to MDSHA, please email SHADistrict7@sha.state.md.us or call 301-624-8100. You can also submit a request through their online portal: http://marylandsha.force.com/customercare/request_for_service.

As always, if there are ways County Executive Ball or our office can be of further service, do not hesitate to call or email our office.

    Warm regards,

Removing vegetation along Main St increases flash flood risks to community. Soil exposed and disrupted can clog drains and causes erosion on steep slopes. Vegetation slows the flow of runoff, and it's removal accelerates runoff.

Please discontinue this practice for the safety of the community inside this chronic disaster zone.

    Pedestrian Safety Concern

Requesting high visibility of line markings, suggest embedded flashing LED as pictured.

Area of Main St is a "major collector route" that is less than 10' from front doors in community.

Cars cross the yellow line to maintain speed around blind curve from 8600 through 8500 Main St.

Yellow cones placed on the double yellow line were VERY effective at calming traffic.
Last Friday Main St was reopened to commuters, the center line cones were removed and traffic immediately became a threat to community safety again. Please keep in mind that for many of us, this "major collector route" is less than 10' from our front door.
This speeding threat existed prior to the recent runoff event and is now exacerbated by rebuilding and recovery.
There is an ongoing traffic study in place here, so far the white shoulder posts are not effectively calming traffic. Cars cross the yellow line to maintain speed. With cones on the center line, vehicles are not able to cross the double yellow and therefore must travel slower.
Please return the cones to the center line ASAP.
Note: this is also a pedestrian safety concern for lower Main St, please consider this a safety concern from Rogers Ave down to Maryland Ave.

Underside of Main Street washed out.

From previous issue (3990930 & duplicate 3992733) reported 12/31/2017: "These are recurring sink holes, and one has recently popped open due to persistent freezing temps. In Fall 2016, this sinkhole was neglected and got so big it ripped the wheel and axle off a car causing a terrible accident. These sinkholes appear to indicate the underside of Main St is washing out from beneath the asphalt and likely require more attention than just an asphalt patch."

Please install traffic calming signage for the Main St community between Rogers Ave & Ellicott Mills Dr.
  • 8565 Main Street Ellicott City, Maryland - Ellicott City
In the most recent flash flood, the community lost its speed limit signs on Main St between Klein Ave and Ellicott Mills Dr. Speeding is very dangerous in this community due to proximity of homes and cars to road. Please install highly visible signage ASAP.
