QUESTION: How do we report issues using SeeClickFix if there are no categories that fit the issue being reported?

The City of New Haven has just recently updated their SeeClickFix platform. Included with this update has been a change to the categories from which users can choose when reporting issues. Some of the categories have been removed and a few new ones have been added.

The scope of categories from which we can choose is more limited than it was before the update. There used to be a category called, "Other - City Responsibility". It has been removed.

I understand it seemed like a good idea to have that category removed. That category made it difficult for our city's employees to keep track of issues and also made it difficult to accurately measure the performance metrics; however, without that category each user must choose a category that might not accurately reflect the issue being reported.

The available categories are as follows:

    Bicycle Rack Request
    Bus Shelters
    Drainage Request
    Graffiti
    Health Dept.
    Illegal Dumping
    Library Issues
    NHFD - Fire Hazard
    NHFD - Fire Hydrants
    NHFD - Fire Safety Concern
    NHFD - Fire Violation
    Neighborhood News
    Parking Meter
    Parking Violation/Abandoned Auto
    Parks Request
    Pavement Markings
    Potholes
    Private Property Issue
    Public Space, Streets and Drains
    SNOW RELATED
    Sidewalks and Curb damage
    Signs
    Street Lamp
    Street Vendors
    Traffic Signal / Pedestrian Signal
    Trash & Recycling
    Tree Trimming
    CT Transit - New Haven:
    - General Bus Request/Incident
    Could Be Fund:
    - This Could Be...
    Community
    - Post to Neighbors

By the way, if anyone accesses SeeClickFix via our city's website, you will not be presented with all of the categories. The following categories are missing from SeeClickFix at the following URL: https://seeclickfix.com/web_portal/WAE8vSooYm9Yc9YRgEETwygF/report/category

    CT Transit - New Haven:
    - General Bus Request/Incident
    Could Be Fund:
    - This Could Be...

As an example of this problem, how can SeeClickFix be used to report problems about our city's website? As time goes by, New Haven's website at https://www.newhavenct.gov/ is in need of updates both organizationally and technically.

  • 200 Orange Street 3rd Floor It Department New Haven, Connecticut - Town_Green

This issue is for the IT Department:

There is an issue with one of the links at the following URL:
    https://www.newhavenct.gov/gov/depts/nhpd/division/patrol/districts.htm

The link is titled as follows:
"See the stations on an interactive map >"

After clicking on that link, the user is taken to the following URL:
    https://nhgis.newhavenct.gov/arcgis/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=1241d64d8a1d4c9d9846dde2baeebcb7

It doesn't work. The error message is as follows:
"Item does not exist or is inaccessible"

IF ANY EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN NOTICE THIS TICKET, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU COULD INFORM THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT.

I understand the category I selected "Policing Issue" doesn't fit the issue described above; however, there is no SeeClickFix category for IT issues. It might be a good idea for New Haven to create a new SeeClickFix category for IT issues.

  • Corner Of Chapel St And Orange St New Haven, Connecticut - 770 Chapel Big

At the corner of Chapel St and Orange St, none of the 8 pedestrian crosswalk lights are working properly. Only the "Red Hand" shows. The "Green Man" does not illuminate when it is safe for pedestrians to cross. Rather, it changes from the "Red Hand" to a blank screen.

I saw a message indicating I should call someone, but I would rather not. Posting this message is much more than the hundreds of other people who cross that street every day, but have done nothing.

  • Temple Plaza Acknowledged
160 Temple Street New Haven, Connecticut - Town_Green

Temple Plaza looks beautiful; however, I noticed something that looks a bit odd. There is a list of some of the rules of Temple Plaza located on a poster on the side of the cool looking Big Belly trash can inside the park. The colors and design of the poster look awesome, but at the top of the poster is the following information:

    TEMPLE PLAZA
    OPEN DUSK TO DAWN

Dusk to dawn means from sunset until sunrise (Nighttime). I thought Temple Plaza is a daytime park.

Did somebody really check the information and not notice the error before the information was sent to the print shop?

There is supposed to be an "Online Bike Rack Request Tool" at the city's website on the following webpage, but it's not embedded.
    https://www.newhavenct.gov/gov/depts/traffic/bike_new_haven/bike_parking.htm

Scroll down on that webpage and you can see the big blank space where the tool is supposed to be embedded.

Will the tool ever be embedded on that webpage? If not, it might be a good idea to remove the sentence that reads, "To request a bike rack, use the online bike rack request tool below".

There is a technical issue with the search engine on the city's website at https://www.newhavenct.gov/

Don't take my word for it. Go to the website and try utilizing the search engine for yourself.

Almost all search queries result in "No Matches Found". The error message displayed is as follows.

    ********************
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e07'

Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '5,603,953,2,1,7,614' to data type int.

    /civica/azindex/filteredsearchfuncs.asp, line 1732
    ********************
That was the error message received after performing separate searches for the following keywords:

    downtown
    bicycle
    concert
    meter
    trash

There is no way there aren't actual results for those keywords.

I understand IT issues can be quite difficult for the personnel employed with our IT Department. If you can't figure out how to resolve the issue, please contact me for an appointment and I can offer assistance.

There is a thin wire dangling from the power lines. It is not insulated wire and it is very thin, so you can not easily see it from more than about 5 feet away. It is located approximately 15 feet south of the Mt. Carmel bus stop for southbound buses in front of Subway and Tonino's Pizza. Here is the location on Google Maps Street View.

Does the City of New Haven not have a "Lost and Found"? I checked online, but the only ones I found were for East Rock Park and several other specific lost and found departments like for the train and bus services and Yale. I found someone's wallet the other day and discovered the lack of a New Haven Lost and Found listed online. Luckily, there was a Yale ID inside the wallet, so I was easily able to find the owner's Yale profile online and make contact.

Several benches were removed from the bus stop on Temple St near Chapel. The rumor is that they were removed to deter people from hanging out there. The other part of the rumor is that new benches will not be installed until next spring. Is this true?
