Glazier Way And Huron Pkwy Ann Arbor, Michigan - Ann Arbor
Drivers on Glazier Way do not stop (or come to a complete stop) at this stop sign unless there are cars driving south on Huron Pkwy. It is incredibly dangerous for walkers/runners/bikers going north on Huron Pkwy and crossing this intersection. Drivers do not anticipate pedestrians, runners, bikers, and they do not LOOK or sometimes even STOP. I never trust the drivers and always yield to them and at times have had to knock on their window to get their attention. If I did not yield for cars here I would have been run over 3x. Additional signage is needed to warn drivers to look and Yield to pedestrians/bikers. A crosswalk could be installed. These options are not the most effective based on my experience with AA drivers not stopping for pedestrians in general unless there is a hard stop (ie stop light). However, something should be installed to help improve the safety at this dangerous intersection.
  • 2541-2599 Washtenaw Avenue Ann Arbor Michigan - Ann Arbor

Not specific to any location, but Ann Arbor needs major improvement in road maintenance and snow removal. Roads should have salt/sand applied PRIOR to predicted snowfall to prevent accumulation. Snow should then be removed promptly to prevent further accumulation. Major roads such as Huron Pkway, Washtenaw, Plymouth, Pontiac Trail, Packard, Main St, should be absolutely clear but are not. Driving conditions are dangerous and greatly delayed but this could be reduced or even prevented. Other cities of comparable size with snowfall have systems in place to clear the snow, and we expect no less in Ann Arbor.

Major roads are used my most residents (only way to get North, South, East, West aside from small neighborhood roads). How does the city prioritize resources? We could afford to hire snipers and sterilization of deer for a multi-year deer cull, which many residents opposed, yet basic road safety and maintenance during well-known snowy winters are not done. It is important to clear the roads for safety, public health, and as an added benefit, it would help our economy. Schools closed early today, parents had to leave work early to pick up/care for their kids at home, and many staff left the office early (eg 1:30p) due to concerns about traffic, safety, and prolonged commute times, and it's challenging to support restaurants/shops when driving on unplowed roads is terrifying. I am a year-round bike commuter and would ideally be able to also advocate for clearance of the bike lane and multi-purpose sidewalks so that I could continue to bike when there is snow, but the main roads are not even clear....

  • Streetlight repair Acknowledged
Huron Parkway Ann Arbor Michigan - Ann Arbor
Huron Parkway from Plymouth Rd to Washtenaw is completely dark at night. Lighting is completely lacking on the multipurpose sidewalk that I currently use for bike commuting. The daylight is great, but nighttime biking, even with bike and headlamps, is unsafe given the sidewalk is windy, at times uneven, and there are various sticks/acorns/buckeyes to dodge. Pedestrians are also not visible until very close. It is tragic and unacceptable that a pedestrian was hit and killed on this street. Where there are lights installed, such as along the bridge crossing the Huron, the lights are not always turned on. Why does this city not illuminate such a high traffic parkway that could otherwise be used for bike commuting and pedestrians at all times? If this city strives to be a biker friendly city, it needs to start by lighting the streets and bike paths.

Multiple gaps in the sidewalk >3" wide that are highly unpleasant to bike over. The current sidewalk gaps span the entire width of the sidewalk and are unavoidable for bikers. This is equivalent to potholes for bikers. It is painful to ride over these bumps and causes bike damage. These gaps need to be filled similar to the repair done on Washtenaw in front of County Farm Park and the Recreation Center on Washtenaw.
