Could we get perhaps 10 to 15 more seconds of "green time" per cycle at this light?

Every afternoon between 4:45 to 5:15pm, I leave Research Park and head west on Old Madison Pike toward Madison. On most nights, I hit a 5-9 minute delay because of the huge line of cars backed up trying to get through the traffic signal at Old Madison Pike and Slaughter Road. The cars can be backed up nearly a half mile to the Pope John Paul High School.

I admit there is also a lot of traffic on the north-south direction on Slaughter, but my sense is that that a better balance would be achieved by giving westbound a bit more green time. Take a look at the attached image from maps.google.com. It is displaying "typical traffic" at Wednesday around 5pm. You can see the enormous typical backup on Old Madison Pike.

Perhaps adding 10-15 seconds of green time (per cycle) for westbound motorists would help more of these cars get through.
