Environmental Requests Archived333-335 La Hacienda Dr Indian Rocks Beach, FL 33785, USA - Indian Rocks BeachSevere unnecessary sabal palm pruning is restricting tree life and ability to survive. There is simply no defending this process. Year after year IRB officials say they will change and every year those palms get hacked worse. It is a relatively new cash cow to business convincing cities like IRB to trim sabal palms which have existed without issue for millennium. Their palm fronds are not heavy or dangerous in storms. They provide pollinators and wildlife a place to rest and berries to eat. But IRB insists on annually removing all that in conflict with UofF recommendations. And taxpayers foot the bill. It's ridiculously serving no one but a few who insist on doing it and getting paid for it. It is destructive to the neighborhoods peace and clean air. Please cease and desist the practice of trimming sabal palms and lead the way for other beach towns to kill this horrific practice of starving our trees.

Seaweed removal Open812 Beach Trail Indian Rocks Beach, FL 33785, USA - Pinellas County
The rip and tear of the machines to the beach rooted seaweed plants are destroying those plants and their usefulness as sea turtle habitat.
The machine operators are collecting plant material too deep on the beach as they drive and collect to the waters edge.
Please explain why mechanization is used.
Our beaches could use more TLC. They are worse every season and each year. Whatever we are doing needs re-evaluation.
Let's consider leaving seaweed for seabird habitat. A more natural beach is useful, beautiful and the wildlife it attracts is appreciated by beach going people.
The unique dunes only seen in IRB could use that seaweed applied to them so plants have nutrients to grow on, growing the dunes. But trucks used to collect seaweed and trash and recycling et cetera, erodes sand nonstop and creates budget issues when we have to dredge sand from the bottom.
The beaches are really in trouble down there. Let's open our minds to something new.

Environmental Requests Archived602 Hidden Harbour Dr Indian Rocks Beach, FL 33785, USA - Indian Rocks BeachSevere overpruning of sabal palms in IRB Nature Preserve stealing trees ability to gather energy, weakening them, shortening their lives and completely unnecessary. Why is IRB so dead to this issue? We have been raising it with city directors and workers for years. See U of F recommended schedule every five years if necessary and only brown branches IF DESIRED. None necessarily removed. Please respond.
