There’s an old tree stump on the west side of Lincoln road that could be replaced!

I see that you’ve planted some trees recently in Harry Thomas Rec center. It would be great to have another 5-10 around the perimeter of the park. There are stumps where trees used to be and runoff problems that could be helped by the addition of trees. Thank you!

Could we possibly plant some trees in the parking lot by Lincoln Elementary to prevent runoff and add shade?

    Thank you!

Drivers either can’t see or ignore the left turn signal at L and 1st street NE. The placement of the turn signal only on the far side of the road (as opposed to the middle, where the turning lane is) is almost certainly part of the problem. There are also no consequences for running red from a standstill. I believe I have flagged the same problem at K and 1st street NE as well. The whole point of the turn signal is to separate bike traffic from turning vehicle traffic. If drivers are ignoring the signal, it means the central goal of this design is not being achieved.

Any reason not to put a large on-street rack in the space where we now have traffic calming?

Missing crosswalk. Could use high-visibility one as cars frequently disregard it.

Uber dropoff in bike lane forced cyclists in both directions to go into traffic instead of using “protected” bike lane on first street NE, 20 ft north of K.

I spoke to the Uber driver and asked him not to do this. His response was “where do you want me to go?” I said, please stop in the vehicle lane and leave the bike lane. He blew me off.

This is the reality of space that you leave unprotected. Cars stand in this bike lane all the time, and DDOT needs to do more to make sure they cannot. The realities of DCDPW enforcement, especially on the weekend and during AM and PM commutes, make it impossible for the agency to police all bike lanes in the district. The lanes have to be designed to be self enforcing.

The crosswalks are gone/faded at every part of Dave Thomas Circle. Please schedule quarterly restripings. The high vehicle traffic and frequent construction means that the crosswalks are frequently in poor shape. That’s unacceptable for a high-traffic intersection within a quarter mile of a metro station used by DCPS students every day. Please take some proactive responsibility for safety here.

Please add two bike racks on the 1000 block of 11th street. There are currently no bike racks on this block, so cyclists lock their bikes to the planters.

The bike lane on 11 also needs to be painted (and could use protection like every downtown bike lane except for L,M, 15th, and Pennsylvania ave)

New York Ave Ne Washington 20002, United States - Eckington
Next to the elevation apartment building on New York Avenue, directly before the bridge over the rail tracks, there is a big hole in the sidewalk. It’s a pedestrian and cyclist safety problem (esp. since there is no sidewalk on the north side of NY Ave)
  • 1337–1357 6th St Ne Washington 20002, United States - Brentwood
I witnessed a car drive up the protected bike lane from Florida Avenue all the way up to where it ends at Brentwood parkway. This is the second time I have witnessed such an event. The bike lane needs physical impediments to use by vehicles, otherwise it is not protected and drivers will use it in a way that is exceedingly dangerous. This is flagged as a traffic safety issue because a bike lane is there, but a combination of no enforcement and extraordinarily poor design permits creates an extremely unsafe traffic safety problem. In addition, the crosswalk right by union market crosses the bike lanes, so it is is pedestrian safety issue because pedestrians will not expect cars traveling 25-30 mph to be in the bike lane.

There is no sidewalk on the north side of Pierce street. Please add it—this is a block in the center of the city, and it’s a city-owned property. There shouldn’t be gaps in the sidewalk here.
  • 1500–1506 L St Nw Washington 20005, United States - Downtown
Vehicles turn left from the middle lane, even though it is marked as straight only. This creates a danger to cyclists in the protected bike lane (which is on the left side of the road for reasons that i don’t really understand) as well as vehicles in the designated left turn lane. Perhaps you could add an additional flexipost on the far side of the crosswalk to prevent cars from turning from the middle lane, increase enforcement, or add additional lane markings through the intersection to prevent turns. You will find that this is a problem at many of the intersections along the L and M street bike lanes, so whatever solutions you come up with should probably be applied throughout the corridor. These are supposed to be safe E/W routes through the heart of downtown.
