This sign, attached to an orange pylon, keeps getting knocked over by the wind. Is there a way to attach it to the utility pole?

A tree seems to have fallen towards the road during a recent storm. The tree seems to have fallen so that just the uppermost limbs were obstructing the road. But these were apparently cut already. Yet, the limbs of this fallen tree that are above the stone wall and near the stone wall should also be cut back.

Heavy chunk of construction debris -- excess cement -- left by side of road.

Upon close inspection of the photo (bottom left of the photo, there is also a displaced stone (from the wall) seemingly left on top of the wall, apparently, by the perpetrator.

There is large chunk of construction debris (hardened cement) propped against the newly renovated stone wall (a 2023 Community Preservation Act project) just below the gap in the wall left by the displaced stone.

This wall was restored without mortar, though some new stone was added, as well as gravel or crushed stone in some interior gaps.

It is not on the road, but certainly a pedestrian could be hindered by this object in some cases.

There is also litter on the ground (trash). But this issue is the construction debris illegally left here. It is not part of the original wall restoration. Though apparently mortar might be necessary as stones from this wall have already fallen, nearby.

I believe the wall in the photo was part of a 2023 Community Preservation Act project, whereby they rebuilt and restored a quarter mile of stone wall along Grove St. by the Brooks Estate. Perhaps part of the same project or as related projects, they also rebuilt and restored the Slave Wall to the south on Grove St., as well as the stone walls abutting the Slave Wall in either direction (about 0.3 miles of wall along Grove St., between Saltonstall Rd. & Tyler Ave).

This part of the wall (in the photo) seems to have some stone that was new that was added to the existing stone. Although it is a dry wall (without mortar) they seem to have also filled in the gaps with new gravel or crushed stone.

The photo shows two places where stones have fallen to the ground toward the curbstones and the road.

This wall is by the Brooks Estate. Just inside the wall are newly placed markers affixed to some of the trees with nails, demarcating a boundary. These markers are green diamonds that say "D.C.R." & "Trustees" (Trustees of Reservations).

I believe the land behind the wall is controlled by the Brooks Estate Preservation Association or a similar affiliated organization. The wall is perhaps on City of Medford land, since it abuts the road so closely.

Street Sweeping & Emergency Snow Artery sign (all in one) is bent.

The corner is bent and could be straightened with a pair of vise grips.

It also has a longitudinal bend down the middle which could also be straightened.

It has a large scratch, as well, but the sign is still readable.

Though at least the corner should be straightened.

The fact that there is overgrowth where a walkway to the front door could be is their prerogative. But there is plastic trash scattered all around the front yard. A plastic storage bin is off the ground in the thicket.

After 5 p.m. today for about 12 minutes, I picked up most of the pieces of shattered black plastic on the black asphalt surface. Yet, there remain very numerous (hard to see) 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch pieces of black plastic. In the 1st photo (I will add a second photo in a comment, see below) these hard to see black fragments are by the diagonal crack connecting the corner of the curbstones around the dumpster area and the live parking area by the Metal Items dumpster. Could D.P.W. please sweep that spot? I picked up most of the pieces I could easily see and grab while wearing gloves, but there are still very numerous small shards of black plastic by the Metal Items dumpster on the raised sidewalk (in the 1st photo).

Last night's strong wind appears to have knocked over this pylon with sign.

The photo also depicts a drainage issue. Water from the rain last night froze in the slight depression over the excavation patch. It isn't frozen where tires have spread the moisture westward. Although it could be a road hazard if a motorist were to slam the brakes on right on that spot, the current traffic pattern makes that unlikely.

Because of the forecast of snow, when I first saw this accumulation of plastic debris near the Mystic River today at around 3 p.m., I felt compelled to act. I first asked D.P.W. if they could sweep it with a broom and a shovel. I then offered to pick it up by hand.

Today, Monday, February 12, 2024 (as discussed beforehand with Medford D.P.W. at 4 p.m.) I picked up the plastic auto accident debris on the southbound side of Boston Ave. in West Medford, between Arlington St. and the Boston Ave. bridge across the Mystic River.

I meticulously picked up 99 percent of it, except where there were a couple vehicles parked. And even there, I was able to reach around and under those two vehicles. I even asked neighbors if they knew whose they were.

I filled a 30-gallon bag halfway (mostly with plastic shards but also other trash) and a 1-gallon bag with metal items. I continued to pick up aluminum and plastic beverage containers as I walked back to my building which has a driveway on Boston Ave. Including the walking, I worked from around 4:15 to 5:50 p.m. At first, I was using smaller bags, but had to walk back once to get the 30-gallon bag.

The plastic auto accident debris was more widespread than I anticipated. I had thought it was just in the vicinity of 131 Boston Ave. and 133 Boston Ave. (2 houses). This was where the two cars were parked.

A passerby told me that there was more plastic at the traffic light (at the intersection with Arlington St. There, I sifted through the Quik Sorb at the exact corner of the curbstones at 121 Boston Ave. I removed 99 percent of the plastic from it.

It is going to snow tonight so there probably is not much that can be done. Yet, if the Fire Department (that presumably responded to the car accident) put down Quik Sorb to absorb the automotive fluids leaked after an accident, it should then be swept up before it rains or snows.
