Stair and railing repair need in playground of G&P school. The top step right of photo is badly eroded with exposed rusty re-bar. This area is nearest the railing, not good. All treads of steps in photo have cracks in them suggesting the lip might break away. The railing on the left side of photo had an open crack in one tube a diagonal meeting a vertical at top of stairs. Perhaps cover this with tape now while a complete repair is made
later. A child’s small finger might get caught in it, or a piece of a garment snagged there. The doorway leads to the gym which is the location of two polls on Election Day. This is the polling place for at least three elected officer holders. Two of whom at least will be on the ballot on the first Tue of November.

By the ball field next to the Morse School, infield. Tree branches are obscuring the hanging warning sign and device. In the photo it is center behind the foliage. The sign/device is to alert motor traffic exiting the rotary for Memorial Drive westbound that there is a low pedestrian bridge ahead. Trucks and Moving Van collide with the overpass too often. The pedestrian overpass bridge itself has no height limit warning sign or device attached to it.
I don’t know if the tree(s) are City or State DCR or DOT responsibility.
It is Moving Season for Students and others.

Comment on #11276631 closed for comment. Harvard Yard gates shut. Harvard Yard is private property, they can do what they like. No doubt there are students, staff, and faculty that would prefer the gates be kept open. It should also be understood that Harvard Yard is HOME to hundreds (?) of students. The decision to kept gates shut at night is likely informed by that fact.

(CC to State Rep Owens, State Sen. Jehlen, US Rep. Clark [Civil Rights, ADA]) Car parked on crosswalk, on ADA ramp, in MBTA bus stop, at curb extension, at an intersection. Turns, traffic, and safety are negatively impacted. There are right now open legal residential and unrestricted parking spaces. The exact area has signage for no parking already. Legal Calling for ticket enforcement is ineffective and inefficient. Why doesn’t this bus stop have the enhanced roadway markings “Bus Stop” as EVERY bus stop on Mass Ave in North Cambridge does? Pylons are an idea to consider here. Other ideas, Painting “$100 Fine” on pole the holds the electric bus lines, also adding vertical signs to bus stop pole shafts can be added. The City used this type sign elsewhere in Cambridge.
  • 49 Linnaean St Cambridge 02138, United States - Neighborhood 9
    There are three obsolete 25 mph speed limit signs on Linnaean St which has been regulated 20 mph. Presently there is temporary auto feedback sign to tell motorists to slow down;
a 20 mph sign is mounted to the top which is in the left of photo.
The Three Locations: On lamppost at corner of Linnaean and Raymond near #49; On lamppost at Linnaean/Washington/Bowdoin near #24 and #26; on lamppost near #21 (oldest house in Cambridge).
  • 6 Oxford St Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - Agassiz-Harvard

Two speed limit signs seem in conflict at start of Oxford St near Kirkland St. They only are only a few yards distance apart. The new style 20 mph limit sign with yellow top, and older 25 mph are in photo, along with Oxford/Kirkland street signs on left. Older 25 mph limit sign is mounted on street light in the right of the photo, zoom in to see it better.

Is the intent to limit speed to 20 mph for Oxford St for just a few yards or for blocks or for the entire length of Oxford St?

  • 4 Dunstable Road Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - West Cambridge

Copy sent to City Manager and TT and P. Nothing wrong with traffic signs here. Ticket enforcement needed. Adding Double Yellow Line (typical, not expensive nor controversial) in roadway would encourage safety, traffic, and parking compliance. There is no need or excuse to park here. Safer parking spaces are all around. Residents have visitor passes and off street parking.

Many telephone calls in the past have not improved the matter.

Unsafe parking on a hill, on a curve, at a curb extension, with two regulation signs; it has become a daily event even in snow conditions (snow emergency zone) often for many hours duration. School buses use this street.

Tracker Trailer Truck Parked in Bus Stop and On Top of Bike Lane. Engine might be idling or not.
What can be done to make it clear the City does not tolerate this dangerous and illegal behavior? Additional signage. Roadway paint marking the Bus Stop as is seen on ALL and EVERY Bus Stop on Mass Ave on from Walden St and into Arlington Town across the parkway.
  • 121 Appleton St Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - West Cambridge

On hill, car unoccupied Except for DOG is parked at fire hydrant, parking regulation sign in present. This is routine and dangerous. The car is parked in the only travel lane uphill within an intersection.

What will the City do to address this ongoing hazard? Painting the area in the roadway as No Stopping would likely help. This policy and technique is used elsewhere in the City.

121 Appleton St - West Cambridge

Parking Violation, sign is posted, Fire Hydrant is out of frame to right. The vehicle is parked in a traffic lane, the only moving lane in that direction. This is also a the top of a T intersection.

If the City would paint a double yellow line in the roadway between the two curb cuts in the intersection where the fire hydrant is located it might discourage illegal and dangerous parking there. When a parker alighted the vehicle they would step on the double yellow line.

Legal or Illegal? If this is an illegal U turn it needs to be marked with a sign and other safety measures. This U Turn is across the brand new bike lane configuration with newly introduced pylons within a few feet of last month’s bike fatality and last year’s pedestrian fatality. The new bike lane configuration and pylons are a reaction to the bike fatality.
  • 32 Highland St Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - West Cambridge

Appleton St. corner of Highland St. Tree branches are blocking traffic sign for raised intersection and 20 MPH. Tree belongs to unoccupied home at 32 Highland St under redevelopment. (The owner has sought a variance of some sort.)

Sign should be upgraded to “Speed Limit 20 MPH” to make it binding on traffic. Regardless of any Shared Street program the City proposes.

Sorry about sideways photo. It uploaded that way.

Photo noon time August 19, 2020. Does this area need to be fenced off? Perhaps these barriers were not removed yesterday after there was a fatal bike accident very near this location that shut down the roadway.
  • 244 Huron Ave Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - West Cambridge

The City needs to speak with Fishmonger and Formaggio about this. Garbage and Recycling pick up was over hours ago. The sidewalk is a public way. ADA regs apply.

The City has granted temporary 15 minute limit parking on Huron Ave to help support these businesses. The City should consider withdrawing it if businesses will not respect regulations that have been in place for decades.

  • 244 Huron Ave Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - West Cambridge

Location 244 Huron Ave, rear alleyway. Formaggio is cooking in alleyway. The smoke is thick and pungent. This is not an outdoor kitchen but an alleyway where food waste and combustible recycling are stored. The flues of the standalone cooking apparatus are lower than the roofline of the building itself. Such venting would not be allowed for indoor commercial cooking. The neighborhood is dominated by food frame residential building.

The City has not resolved this issue from identical concerns raised in the past. Is Inspectional Services okay with operating a commercial kitchen outdoors without hand-washing facilities and fire suppression systems there?

(Any sidewalk retail activity such a cookout on the weekend needs to monitored by several City offices for compliance with Covid 19 control measures.)

  • 244 Huron Avenue Cambridge - West Cambridge

Car accident 6/25/20 near dangerous intersections. Police report says 25 mph. Area should be signed for 20 mph safety zone; No U Turn; Bus Stop roadway and Bike Lane need upgrade with roadway paint. Pylons, barrels, or easel signs can be used to protect bus stop.

City must talk to businesses to keep customers from parking in bus stop. Instead, employees actively load purchases into customers’ cars as though its private property.
