The north and southbound traffic at Bangerter and 9800 S is backed up horribly during rush hour (7:45-8:00 a.m. and 5:00-5:30 p.m.). In the morning, northbound traffic is backed up clear to 104th S. In the afternoon, southbound traffic is backed up clear to 90th. I've looked at east and west bound traffic on 98th as I drive through the intersection, and that traffic is not backed up at all. It seems to me that the traffic signal should be adjusted to prioritized the N/S larger volume traffic at those times of day. I read the previous post about the east bound signal on 98th only letting 2 or 3 cars through and causing problems getting out of the middle school parking lot during student drop off hours. I get this. I'm in education myself and know about school traffic issues. I believe the solution lies in the timing of the traffic signal. It seems to me that it should be possible to set the sigals for longer N/S durations during morning and evening rush hours, then return them to lesser times for normal traffic hours. It also seems that there could be a separate and similar adjustment made for school drop off hours to accommodate those needs as well. Regardless, there clearly needs to be a study conducted of that intersection, and then some more appropriate adjustments with the timing of the signal. The way it is set currently is clearly not working well.
