Missed recycling on Huntington Street, possibly because of the snowstorm

Almost two weeks ago, I posted about an illegally dumped toilet in a large cardboard box, left on the curbside strip in front of our house. LCI responded that they had notified DPW, from whom there has been no response and no action. Please let me know what should happen next to have this illegally dumped toilet-in-a-box removed.

Toilet in large cardboard box left on the side of the street, has been there for several days, no contracting work going on here or nearby — please remove

Our trash has not been picked up this week, two days after our regular day and two days after the holiday. Recycling was picked up yesterday. I see other bins still out on the block

On Saturday before St. Patrick's Day we picked up friends at the train station, had to park on the street on the west side of Union Avenue, which was so filthy and littered that we were embarrassed for our friends to see it. This is the sidewalk and street that runs along the concrete wall of the former Church St. South development. Don't know who is responsible now for its maintenance, but it is a very bad look for one of the major gateways to our fair city. Both sides of the street and both sidewalks should be regularly cleaned.

As of this morning, Nov 9, the hydrant still is leaking

Phil Langdon asks me to post this issue for him: “For as long as I’ve lived in the neighborhood (39 years), there’s been an approximately 10-foot-long section of Ogden Street that’s missing a sidewalk. For a long time, the missing sidewalk was not a big problem. But in recent years, as roots have protruded above ground, that stretch of missing sidewalk has become a hazard for pedestrians. In the winter, that sidewalk is not shoveled, which adds to the danger for people walking on Ogden Street.

Could you ask the City to install a sidewalk on that short stretch of Ogden St?”

One of several large stumps left on curbside strips now has an exuberant growth of poison ivy in front of 150 Huntington St, which encroaches on the narrow sidewalk, and is a problem for pedestrians. The elderly and frail homeowner is unable to address this issue. Would be much appreciated by all of us on the block if the City would kill and remove the poison ivy, as well as the large stumps left behind for years, now.

This property at the corner of Prospect and East Rock has for many days had a large coil of metal cable on its curbside and partly on the sidewalk. It is a trip hazard for pedestrians, and an eyesore. The Human Relations Area File manages this property. They were informed of the problem by a neighbor, but have done nothing about it.

Hello! For some reason our recycling bin wasn't emptied today: first time we have set it out in several weeks, so it's almost full. Please come back! Thanks.
  • 123 Ogden St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Prospect Hill

A neighbor reports problems with an abandoned lot next door to 123 Ogden St, and has asked me to post this for him:

"I shot the photos below at the vacant lot just west of 123 Ogden Street on Nov. 5, 2021. United Illuminating stored many utility poles on the lot while replacing old utility poles in the vicinity. UI vehicles drove over the sidewalk and ruined it. The sidewalk is now a hazard to pedestrians.
I think UI should pay to repair the sidewalk. This should be done ASAP, since winter is coming, which will make this spot even more dangerous to walkers.
    Thanks,
    Philip Langdon

At the northwest corner of Edgehill Road and Huntington Street, there is a bizarrely jury-rigged utility pole that looks unsafe. A plywood part of a sistered utility pole, with many attached wires and cables, appears to be buckling. We had assumed this repair was temporary, but the structure is unchanged after months. Can you explain the construction, and what is the plan?

Ogden Street New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
Ogden Street from its western extent at the top of the hill, down to its eastern end near Whitney Avenue, is riddled with potholes. Because of Albertus Magnus, Turning Point, and St. Thomas School, this street is heavily travelled and because of its steep hill the poor condition of the road is especially hazardous: an inattentive driver could lose control and jump the curb. The road needs resurfacing, since multiple attempts at pothole repair seem to have failed.

There are three dead ash trees on the north side of this street, in the middle of the block, that present a hazard to life and limb and are a great liability for the City. The dead trees overhang a busy emergency route, and are just half a block from the Worthington Hooker School, so there is a lot of foot traffic along this street. The neighbors have reported this problem many times. Please remove these trees.
