YOUR RECENT EMAIL STATED THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE ON S.I ARE JOYLESS.
Here's my impression of why: Over-overcrowded Island, too many houses, too many people, too many cars. The destruction of our eco-system by builders ravaging all our woods and swamps, leaving pre-existing animals no food or lodging which they had here forever, leaving the newcomers with animals in their precious yards, and they all hate animals. They should learn to live with them, since they were here before the intruders! The deforestation doesn't allow the roots to absorb rain water and flooding. Leaves clean the air giving us cleaner air. The roads are atrocious. Not only do we have many, many one-lane roads, but they are disgracefully in dire need of repaving. this is where DeBlasio could have come across for Staten Island with plenty of money to pave ALL the roads on SI instead of wasting billions of money on HIS self-interest projects. eg. the wheel and vasectomies for male deer. The wheel was not necessary, nor are the Outlets. They are not going to be the cash cows that he thinks they will be. The wheel which was to be situated on waterfront ground, which will experience other disaster storm. That wheel would have come right down. Bus and rail service: The city just can't wait to jump on Staten Island to make inconsiderate and disruptive changes without allowing The People to vote on the proposal. Anything that concerns The People, should be presented to The People to vote yea or nay. Now, as to the rail service: years ago when I was growing up, there were 4 rail lines from and to the ferry. At that time, we had about 45,000 people living on bucolic Staten Island. One to South Beach, One to Midland Beach, the existing one, and the one that went towards Forest Ave. Now we have one rail line and 600,000+ people. Driving: The only time that there is no traffic is at 2-4 AM. 278 is atrocious because the VZ Bridge has created the gateway to the world. The main roads and side roads are atrocious as well, mainly because SI has many, many one lane roads (with a bike lane in the roadway). And, by the way, 2 Hospitals for this number of people is inadequate. Maybe instead of building dwellings at Vanderbilt and Bay Streets. We, The People, should have been asked which option The People wanted. A 3rd Hospital or more dwellings and stores. The builders have ravaged Staten Island!! Enough is Enough!!!
With all due respect, this opinion is not meant to be rude or insulting, just a matter of fact.

Maybe this is why Staten Islanders are JOYLESS. Everything is against them.
