New Haven Police Not Equipped with Narcan !!!

Recently a Westville neighbor and several police watched helplessly as an overdose victim died while waiting for EMS to arrive with Narcan. I was shocked to learn that in New Haven, a city with more than 100 fatal overdoses a year, the police are not equipped with Narcan nor trained to use it. Other nearby cities, including Hartford and New York, train and supply police officers with Narcan.

Not sure if this boat ramp is still active or not, but even if it is, this ramp to the water looks like an accident waiting to happen. At night someone impaired or not paying attention could drive right into the river. There is a metal chain, but that wont stop a car.

This location is close to where, in 1988, 4 young adults drowned after the car they were driving in went into the Mill River. I believe there was an issue with a missing barricade.

The entire stretch of Ella T btw Edgewood Ave and Chapel is a complete mess. Trash left out and the tree line full of litter. 10,000 cars pass by this street each day, and this is the image of New Haven they are left with

Garbage cans overflowing on Chapel St. For 2.5 years I've asked the city for more garbage cans around the park. In total, I sent 36 emails (Elicker on copy) and met with DPW/Parks twice to show them where we need the garbage cans. No action. An article in the NHI last week quotes the Parks Director as saying they have some in storage. So what gives? I know Mayor Elicker doesn't like me because I've criticized his policies, but to be so vindictive to deny much needed attention to Edgewood Park is a bit excessive.

The City has rolled out an online tool to calculate how much your taxes will increase this year. Two VERY important notes before you plug in your address.
    1. The "INCREASE WITH PHASE IN" amount is for year 1 only. So if it shows $300. This means your taxes will go up $300 this year, and then an additional $300 each year thereafter. So $300 this year. $600 next year. $900 the following year. $1,200 the next year. And $1,500 in year 5. Assuming of course that Mayor Elicker doesn't raise taxes again.
    2. IGNORE the line item that reads "Increase WITHOUT Out Phase In". It's pure politics and based on the false set of assumptions, mainly that the Mill Rate would only fall to 36.

Mayor Elicker is raising taxes 6%, increasing spending $27 million, and adding 25 employees to the City payroll. The tax increase comes despite a cash windfall of $100 million from the Feds, a $49 million increase in State PILOT funds, and a $10 million increase in Yale contributions.
Please join me in saying NO to Mayor Elicker’s tax increase.

After learning surrounding communities and businesses being the subject of robberies, young boys and girls are being subjected to sex trafficking, drug use. We have also witnessed drug dealing, loitering, trespassing, received reports of misuse of others properties, and were shown uninhabitable living situations.

The historic Townsend estate on the East Shore is for sale for $2.25 million. Please join in asking the City to purchase the property so the residents of New Haven can determine the future use of the property. If the City doesn't act, we run the risk of a mega landlord purchasing it, or a non-profit buying it and removing it from the tax rolls.

  • 880 Elm St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Edgewood
I have repeatedly contacted traffic enforcement regarding cars parking and destroying the tree line in the Edgewood neighborhood, and yet the problem persists. The tree line on Elm btw Ella T and Brownell has been destroyed. How is it that traffic doesn't see these problems and enforce the ordinance?

There are dozens of these signs posted illegally throughout the edgewood neighborhood and hundreds throughout the city and they have been here for at least 4 months. How is it that nobody at LCI has taken them down? Is LCI still working? Do they see them and simply don't care?

Spring is fast approaching. Pitchers and catchers have reported to Spring Training. Flowers are beginning to bloom. And if history is any guide, the illegal dirt bikers will soon take control of New Haven’s streets and parks.

Thanks to Asst. Chief Jacobson and an overwhelming level of support from the community, the BOA’s (who'd done nothing about the problem for 10 years) had no choice but to adopt a new ordinance to help the NHPD address the issue.

But, it will take more than a new ordinance to put an end to the dirt bikes. The NHPD and the community will need the politicians to step forward with a plan. That means

    1. Funding NHPD OT to support enforcement.
    2. A Public Announcement/ PR Campaign letting would-be riders know the behavior will no longer be tolerated in New Haven.
    3. Support from the New Haven business community; the business community has privately said the dirt bikes hurt business, but so far none have come forward to stand with the NHPD or the residents. It’s time for the business community to step up.
    4. Continued support from the public; if you know where the dirt bikes are being garaged share the info with the NHPD. Anonymous Tips
