New LED street lights installed by Duke energy are excessively bright and omnidirectional causing a horrible, blinding glare from all directions. The new lights are disrupting our homes with unhealthy light pollution while also causing a safety hazard by blinding drivers and limiting the ability of residents to monitor the area around their homes at night. On behalf of my neighbors and my family, I am requesting that the new lights be switched back to a dim amber shade with a shroud installed to direct the light toward the street and away from peoples homes.

This is a curved road with limited visibility. The glare from the new lights causes drivers to be blinded when approaching our block. This area was already prone to accidents and the new lights have made the situation considerably worse. In addition, the new lights make it impossible for residents to monitor the road outside their homes at night for burglary and other crimes due to the blinding glare of a powerful spot light shining directly in their faces.

The new lights have been installed using "Blue" daylight LED bulbs - which are known to REDUCE night vision and also to cause sleep disruption. There is a great deal of research showing that blue light at night is detrimental to healthy sleep. We go through great lengths to avoid blue light after sunset. The new streetlights amount to an assault on our ability to rest at night.

I appreciate that the City is saving money and using less energy to light the streets at night, but the plan has been executed in the worst possible way. There is no reason to use blue daylight bulbs in a residential neighborhood at night. For all of the health and safety reason mentioned above, we request that this situation be remedied as soon as possible by dimming the lights to a lower amber shade - and installing full cutoff shrouds to reduce the directional glare.

    Thank You.
