Matt Diehl has been one of my points of contact within DPW for a couple of weeks and I actually left a message for him this morning around 9 am. On friday he handed me off to MDE for jurisdictional boundaries surrounding sewage spills. This is how I found out that MDE mandates testing for spills over 2000 gallons. The contact list and call logs have been submitted to MDE, DPW and a few other agencies in order to open the investigation back up in order to take into account the true scope of the disaster.

I am not sure what you’re talking about when referring to DPW being in contact with the Deale/Rockhold Creek community because there has been absolutely NOTHING even resembling that.

Please stop closing the reported issue out unless water/soil/well testing has ACTUALLY been completed. The scope of the catastrophe is HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF GALLONS OF SEWAGE; closing the issue out without doing anything only furthers the case that DPW is actively covering up SSO 808 and shrugging responsibly/accountability.

The county response to the sewage overflow into Rockhold creek has been wholly inadequate. No water, soil or well testing has been done and the county maintains that the leak only occurred for 5 hours spilling 1500 gallons into the Creek. It sure seems like the county is attempting to run the clock out as they try to hide it from the public. SSO Report 808 pertains to this sewage incident and is the only county document acknowledging this problem.

The leak had been going on for months; members of the community were calling DPW, emergency line, environmental hotline, etc. since October 2018. The county finally came out on April 17 with an emergency division to investigate. They discovered Reliable Contracting has nicked a pipe on Mann Rd. (Down drum point) which allowed gravel and debris to clog the sewer line. The manhole in question is at the end of an old postal road adjacent to 609 park pl. (off the road) and topographically speaking is the lowest manhole in Deale.

The county needs to address this problem in a meaningful, comprehensive way including but not limited to: comprehensive soil/water/well testing, transparency of the investigation as well as results, public education, and resources for those affected both acutely and chronically.
