There is a gap between concrete blocks on the sidewalk. Dangerous for walking and biking (using the bike lane is scary in the afternoon.)

    Hello,

I am writing on the question about the safety of the playground in Roosevelt Park.
A few days ago, I was at the playground watching my kid playing. Suddenly, I got a hit in the chest with a frisbee disc. Two guys ran up to me. "Sorry, sorry – but you are in the frisbee golf area. Do you see the sign?" I was NOT in the frisbee golf area. I was standing on the playground, on the wood chips. "You see the sign? This is our insurance." They were drunk. I felt the smell. They denied it. Then they quickly ran away, "We are done for today!" They were scared.

I was very fortunate. I was hit in the firmest place possible. It still hurts, and there is a bruise. It would have been much worse if I had been hit a few inches higher, in my neck or face. I could have lost a few teeth, had my nose broken, or left without an eye but with a disability. And if that disc had hit my child, she could have been dead.

So, this playground is dangerous. We have been using it for several years, and it never occurred to me that such a thing could happen. I always thought that frisbee players are very responsible and aware of their surroundings. But I was mistaken.

I discussed the accident in a local Facebook group. People confirmed that they avoid the playground due to safety concerns (they expressed other concerns about the park, too, but safety was the primary one.)

For this reason, I am asking the city to install a mesh-type fence around the playground similar to what golf courses have. This measure will help to prevent such accidents in the future.

Our playgrounds should be free from danger coming from other people, especially "armed" with heavy frisbee discs having very sharp edges.

    Thanks for reading.

    Sincerely,
