Elm Street between Howe and West Park Ave is frequently used during the afternoon as a bike route from downtown to the Edgewood/Westville area.

I think that some sharrows (at the very least) could really be used on Elm. I've had some bad instances before here, and think that with the high volume of cyclists who use Elm Street, there should be some accommodations for the sake of safety.

When the roundabout was installed at West Park and Elm, there were sharrows painted on the streets by the intersection. It would be nice if these were continued down Elm.

    Thanks

  • State & Court New Haven, CT - Downtown
The button on the NW pedestrian signal on Court and State is unresponsive (as of yesterday).
  • Elm & York New Haven, CT - Yale University Campus

This morning, the walk signal on the South side of Elm, going across York St, was faulty. It started the countdown from 59 seconds, or so, and then proceeded to jump over large gaps of numbers. For an example, the signal might have displayed 49-48-24. This occurred two or three times during one light cycle.

This is very dangerous for pedestrians.

The buttons work, and the traffic lights apparently turn red, but the signal heads don't show the Walk Signal.
  • 62 Harrison St New Haven, CT - Westville

The route from Alden Ave to the Mitchell Library is a bit flawed. Harrison St has very low traffic in the opposite direction, and cyclists can either go against traffic in the street, or take the sidewalk (both which are illegal, unless you walk your bike). The other way to go would be to use Phillip St, and then go up the hill towards the library.

Why not install a contra-flow bike lane to accommodate cyclist traffic?

The sign show on College in front of Co-Op is either crooked on the post, and slightly dented, or is an interesting piece of art. I honestly can't tell, based on the artsy poll.

There have been a large amount of teens on bikes in the downtown area by the green driving in the street very dangerously (going through red lights very slowly, swerving in and out of lanes, disobeying traffic laws..) This is a danger for vehicular traffic, pedestrians, and especially the bike riders.

This afternoon I rode over to the Book Trader cafe, and I have a very difficult time finding a place for my bike. All spots possible were taken (I finally managed to squeeze my bike with another one).

A bike rack is needed on the the South side of the street

  • Edgewood Btwn Kensington & Dwight New Haven, CT - Dwight
There are lots of rocks on Edgewood Ave covering where cyclists are supposed to be riding, by the new school. This creates a dangerous situation, because cyclists have to have a sudden merge with the other lane.

Recycling on Elm Street was not picked up this morning (trash bins were left a mess, too, but oh well). Don't know about any of the surrounding area.

There are terrible potholes at the intersection of Norton St & Elm. I just rode down Elm on my bike, and conditions were very dangerous for cyclists.
