Jessie St Swampscott, Massachusetts, 01907 - Swampscott

Can somebody please provide an update on the status of repaving Jessie St and repairing the sidewalks?

When I reached out over a year ago, I was told Jessie Street was scheduled to be paved in the spring of 2023. However, National Grid informed DPW that the gas main needed to be replaced. The gas main was scheduled to be replaced in fall 2023 and they said the road will be paved the following spring/summer 2024.

However the gas main was not replaced last fall and the street is in horrible shape. It is a hazard for all who walk here, but especially an elderly man in the neighborhood with limited mobility and vision.

We would love an update on when we could expect some improvements.

I spoke at the Traffic Study Advisory Committee (TSAC) meeting in November of 2022 voicing my concerns about the lack of crosswalk here, and was told that one would be added. Is there any update on this request? Cars do not routinely stop at stop sign at the end of Foster Rd, making it extra difficult to cross without a crosswalk.

Cars routinely run the red light on Essex St. This is extremely dangerous because when cars on Burpee have a green light they are not able to see the cars approaching/running the light. In addition, I have been a pedestrian crossing with a walk signal and have almost been hit. This is aa tragic accident waiting to happen. Would there be any possibility to enforce the red light with a camera? Alternatively, a traffic speed monitor may help to make this intersection safer. With the proximity to the high school, this needs to be addressed asap.

The button to request a pedestrian walk signal does not work on the post across the street from Olbash School of Driving. The other buttons do work.
