    Recent traffic count data shows an average of 1500 cars/day; however there was no no data provided on the average speed of traffic on Blevins Gap Road. For speed calming devices to be installed/remain, the criteria is 500 cars/day and an 85th percentile speed of 35 MPH or greater in both directions of travel. SInce both number of cars and speed criteria must be met, please provide, or collect, the data that shows average speed of traffic on Blevins Gap Road. If this speed criterion is not met, then speed cushions need to be removed.

    Speed barriers on entire length of Blevins Gap Road were installed when Grissom High School generated a lot of traffic. Many of the drivers were of high school age with a tendency to speed. Today Grission high school has moved to another location and the amount of traffic has diminished greatly both in number of cars/day and percentile of speeders. Daily traffic is now much less than 500 cars/day and the percentile of speeding over 35 is well below the 85% criteria. I request that the city do data colection on Blevins Gap to confirm the traffic meets the criteria for speed barriers ... or not. If not, there barriers should be remvoe at the earliest convenience.
