  • 102 Titicus Road North Salem, New York - Westchester County

The surface of Route 116 along the entire northern side of Titicus Reservoir is in terrible condition and merits immediate attention. This is the section of 116 from Route 22 to Turkey Hill Road. This road surface -- with innumerable craters, potholes, cracks, failing asphalt patches and uneven sections-- is especially dangerous and unsafe for bicyclists. The road is narrow, and many cars travel fast on it. But the conditions often require cyclists to move well out into the traffic lane in order to avoid road hazards, and to do so with little or no warning. Even when no such sudden avoidance maneuvers are required, the road surface is so rough that in many spots iit is simply unsafe for cycling. This is a recipe for disaster.

Last year, Mills Road on the southern side of Titicus reservoir was repaved. Its condition had been similar, and the repaving was a vast improvement. It is much safer there now, a 1000% improvement. The contrast between the two roads could not be more pronounced; the repaved portion is among the nicest sections of road in Northern Westchester, while the 116 side is among the worst and most unsafe. What will it take to have this road repaved!?!?
