The previous stump removal request (13574463) was closed without the stump being removed. It has no been more than a year since the tree was removed.

The garbage and recycling on the wall in the picture has been removed. (Thanks!) The other stuff is construction-type debris collected from Hunt Woods during the Spring cleanup May 6 and 7, 2023. There have been numerous phone calls to DPW dispatcher, DPW complaints, and DPW Commissioner's office about this and some promises made, but not kept.

I was assured that this would be ground down this Spring. That gives us about three weeks.

trash cleaned out of public park on May 6 & 7 has not been collected despite calls to DPW dispatcher and DPW.Commissioner's office. Also construction debris that had been dumped in Park.

For more than a year, the homeowner and their contractor have left two piles of gravel and a pile of sand blocking the sidewalk. According to persons called at DPW and the Building Department, there is no permit to block the sidewalk. In addition, the homeowner and their contractor continue to use Hunt Woods Park as a storage yard for scaffolding, a truck bumper, several ladders, length of PVC, a large (~10 ft.) blue plastic item, more than 2 dozen 5-gallon pails, possibly containing construction debris, and other items. I was told that there is no permit allowing this. Why does this continue without City action?

Three garbage cans of spoiled food from failed freezer chest, including rotten meat. Bagged and in closed cans but likely to stink and attract scavenger animals.
  • 25 Laurel Ave Mt Vernon, NY, 10552, USA - Mount Vernon
A landslide from this property into Hunt Woods Park has left a brick garage's foundation partially exposed and undermined. The building is on a steep soil bluff about 20 feet above the pedestrian path in Hunt Woods Park. A heavy rain could lead to the building collapsing onto the path, which is regularly used.

An axle-breaker on southbound California Road. Apparently from Con Ed gas work.Fill was too shallow, uncompacted. Unclear whether in Tuckahoe, Bronxville or Mount Vernon. SeeClickFix geolocation not very accurate.

New York Telephone / Verizon / Con Edison utility pole is supported by a guy wire that girdles an American beech located in Hunt Woods Park. The species has very thin bark. The guy wire has already penetrated the bark, affording an entry for tree-killing fungus (beech snap). The ~80-foot-tall tree could fall on the house that is about 30 feet away. Mount Vernon (supposedly a Tree City) lets this happen.

Oriental bittersweet vines are killing trees on the edges of the small sections of Hunt Woods Park between Central Parkway and E Devonia Avenue and between Central Parkway and the Cross-County Parkway.
  • 874-898 Gramatan Ave Mt Vernon, NY, 10552, USA - Mount Vernon
The wall along Gramatan Ave and the stairway wall down to Laurel Brook in Hunt Woods Park, Mount Vernon has a couple of stones that are ready to fall out, a missing topping stone and some mortar that has fallen out allowing a six-inch pencil to be inserted at the deepest point. A little repointing would do the trick.
  • 61-99 Vernon Pkwy Mt Vernon, NY, 10552, USA - Mount Vernon
A healthy tree was cut down by a City crew, apparently at the behest of and for the benefit of the party that had bought the lot for development. The City.ARB had made approval of a proposed "improvement" conditional upon a commitment to avoid damaging the tree. Removal of the tree avoided any obligation by the property owner to avoid and remedy such damage.
  • 118-142 Central Pkwy Mt Vernon, NY, 10552, USA - Mount Vernon
On both sides of Central Parkway at Hunt Woods Park just north of E Devonia Avenue, the metal barriers are missing about five bolts to fasten the horizontal to the vertical members. One section was irreparably damaged by a fallen tree. At least one horizontal section is rusted out where the bolts should fasten it to the verticals. Most of the horizontals are at least partially rusted and there is some graffiti.

DPW personnel have removed much of the plant material growing on 45-degree slopes, making erosion inevitable.

Apparently the fill under the street over a culvert has been partially washed away, causing the street and sidewalk to sink and be covered by water and mud. (The culvert is not exactly under the line of subsidence. It is offset by more than ten feet.) This is yet another Mt. Vernon problem which doesn't fit into the categories they seem interested in.
  • 64 Vernon Pkwy Mount Vernon, NY, 10552, USA - Mount Vernon
Street trees have lifted sidewalk paving sections to as much as 3 inches above adjoining sidewalk paving sections, creating tripping hazards. Problem is widespread. Reported location is just a clear example.

The Mount Vernon use of SeeClickFix requires that problems fit into a narrow set of categories. Street paving problems other than potholes don't fit in any category. Most public safety matters don't fit in any category. Problems in the City's way of using SeeClickFix don't fit in any category. "Community" postings such as this are considered "unaffiliated", which seems to mean they are not considered the responsibility of any jurisdiction.

I had added numerous items to SeeClickFix long before the City subscribed to the service. Some of the items relate to other jurisdictions, eg. Westchester County or Bronxville. But Mt. Vernon personnel have summarily closed all of these items out though they have taken no action to address the ones in Mount Vernon and apparently haven't even bothered to determine whether the problems were their responsibility. Is this an effort to look like a great number of problems have been solved? It is certainly inconvenient and infuriating to have to retype the reports back into the system.

Scout Field is a County facility. The poor bridge design (lack of camber can crown) leads to the accumulation of water and water-carried debris on the surface of this pedestrian bridge over the Bronx River between Yonkers and Mt Vernon, near Bronxville. The three small drainage holes cut into the sides regularly clog with debris leading to ponding on the bridge. Even when the holes are cleared, the fine clay left behind makes for a slippery surface. In freezing conditions the ponded water often forms ice over the entire width of the bridge.

Repeatedly adding layers of asphalt has virtually eliminated an effective gutter, causing sidewalk flooding and leading to an area that cannot be planted wiyh grass because of the tremendous amount of road salt. Poor quality paving work is widespread. This is just an example.
