I live in the Oakland Hills with my family. We are in a house that faces an upslope hill, and on that hill - no great surprise - are a number of trees.

Two of these trees are tall eucalyptus that are oriented in such a way that when they fall, they will smash into our house, threatening the lives of my family.

In 1993, a Monterey pine was similarly situated. Your department sent someone to assess the tree and removed it promptly, agreeing with the threat level and potential for disaster.

It is not clear to me whether the two eucalyptus in question are also on City land, on PG&E right of way, or on my neighbor’s land. I would like the City to begin the evaluation to determine whose responsibility it should be.

This request is triggered in part by an event early this morning, when at least one eucalyptus tree in our canyon fell. (It smashed into other trees, so it became a loud event.) Fortunately there are no homes in range, and nothing was harmed except other untended trees. The important point, though: There was no specific trigger for this tree’s falling. It was not raining, it was not windy, and I have no idea why it fell other than the amount of moisture in the soil and the direction of the tree’s lean.

The windstorm of 2/4/2024 was nerve-wracking, and I intended to write this last week as a result. The fact that a eucalyptus fell last night, when there was no wind at all, has made my concern even more urgent.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to schedule a time when my husband or I can be home to assist in an inspection.

One of the giant eucalyptus logs, blocking access to the turnout on skyline, has been moved. There are dangerous objects sitting in the turnout, and it’s possible that the trunk could be rolled down the hill, causing destruction of unknown proportions. Please come secure the eucalyptus log where it belongs.

Please send a small scraper or bobcat AND a trailer / team to scrape the ENTIRE STREET'S uphill side, restoring full street width for vehicle use. The hill on the upslope side of Balsam Way erodes into the street each year, narrowing the available street width. We need the soil and debris scraped and REMOVED so we are in a better position to face the winter rains without overflowing storm drains clogged with soil and debris and consequential damage to the street surface.

The scope of this request is the full length of Balsam Way, from 6808 down to 7050 Balsam.

To be very clear: scrape, shovel, and load a trailer to remove the soil and debris entirely from the street, dumping it elsewhere.

Missing cover on the street (don't know if it is EBMUD or LG&E) There is an inverted traffic cone inserted into the hole

    THIS IS DANGEROUS

Please scrape or clean the entire street to remove mud and debris. This street requires annual attention and has had no street cleaning for many years. A scraper blade may be a good idea for the first pass, as there is dirt from undeveloped lots that has oozed down into the road.

Hill slide from rain on 10/24
Not curb/gutter category BUT YOU DON'T HAVE A CATEGORY FOR GROUND SLIPPAGE

This slide is right next to a storm drain Any more movement and we will lose this drain, which will imperil the street's structure

Hillside dirt has encroached on several FEET of Balsam Way in a number of places on this dead-end street It is more than residents can remove with shovels and is obstructing and clogging the storm drains, creating a flooding situation downhill in the rain

Please scrape and remove the material that has reduced the street width

HYDRANT LOCATOR: Missing reflective, raised, blue pavement marker in the centerline of public and private roadways perpendicular to the location of a fire hydrant.
Per amended City Fire Code 507.5.8 Hydrant Identification, this should be in place.

It has been missing since at least 2016, when I opened related SeeClickFix https://seeclickfix.com/issues/2195289 and attempted to follow up with a variety of people.

Please do NOT forward it to the Fire Department unless you can give me a trackable action when it's closed. That's what happened last time.

Given the number of fires in play right now, helping OFD find all the hydrants is the least we can do.

I can’t imagine what size truck could have done this. The iron back of the storm drain is lifted completely up and disconnected from the grating. I’m afraid if anyone drives over the grate, it will collapse.

Missing blue dot reflector to direct Fire Department vehicles to nearby hydrant. In the dark, it would be easily missed.
  • Other: Signs La qiray
27th Street & Telegraph Ave. Oakland, California - Northgate

27th Street has now installed a "no right on red" sign for turning south on Telegraph when traveling east on Telegraph. However, it is installed only on the southwest corner. When cars pull up to the light in a hurry, they are driving right past that sign, focusing on the light, traffic etc.

I strongly recommend that a sign also be placed at the the southeastern corner, because THAT is where a driver is likely to SEE the sign.

I travel this route 6 days a week, and I see lots of people turning right on red at Telegraph. I think for many of them simply don't KNOW that it is wrong because of sign placement.
