  • Edwards And Prospect New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
Again with the lights at Edwards and Prospect. The light for Edwards was again stalled when I tried to go through it at 10am this morning. After 5 minutes I U-turned on Edwards to go back to Whitney, with traffic backed up to St Ronan St. It was apparently again stalled at 11am, again with traffic backed up almost to St Ronan St, when I came past after crossing from Hillside place.
I will not allow this report to be closed until the city can give a definite reason for the problem and that it has been fixed.
  • Edwards And Prospect New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
I've just reported this by phone to 203-946-8075, but to emphasize that I think it needs careful attention I will also post it here. The traffic signal at Edwards and Prospect fairly regularly but intermittently gives no time in the cycle to cars coming from Edwards. I've seen this problem repeatedly over the last six months. When it happens at rush hour the line of cars goes back to Whitney, because this is a much used route. Eventually, in my experience after about 5-10 minutes, about 5 signal cycles in which no time is given to Edwards, the problem seems to clear, although I have a sense that the problem may repeat one or more times together before returning to normal operation.
  • Canner And Whitney New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
The timing for this intersection appears to have been set recently so that there is a significantly longer delay for traffic on Canner Street. At some times of day west-to-east traffic can back up as far as Saint Ronan Street, particularly because Canner is narrow enough that left turners (of whom there are quite a few) often prevent others from proceeding across the intersection. This signal, apparently differently from other signals along Whitney, responds only slowly to Canner street arrivals when there is not much traffic on Whitney. Please review the traffic flow and signal timings.
  • Huntington And Whitney New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
The signal at this intersection appears to have been set recently to be very long for across Whitney near the time for Worthington-Hooker school arrival and departure. With the settings as they currently are, however, rush hour traffic on Whitney often and needlessly backs up beyond the East Rock intersection when there is almost no traffic out of the school or from Huntington. This is perhaps particularly a problem at approximately 8am. Please review the traffic flow and signal timings.
  • Potholes Archived
608 Whitney Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
Approximately 4-6 inches deep, two feet long, one foot wide. Hopefully a patch can be put in before the usual pothole fixing season, because the traffic over it includes buses and trucks that are making the hole worse by the day.
  • St Ronan Street New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
The fire department tested fire hydrants in our area, with the consequence that the water supply is discolored. Please notify neighborhoods of scheduled fire hydrant testing that is likely to cause problems with the water supply on SeeClickFix (and through other channels for those who do not or cannot receive SeeClickFix notifications).
  • Henry & Dixwell New Haven, Connecticut - Dixwell

The duty ratio of the traffic lights at Henry and Dixwell has a low priority relative to the volume of traffic waiting there. There is often very little traffic along Dixwell while a number of vehicles wait on Henry in both directions.

Is it possible to explain the policy for this intersection, even if it can't be changed? It's on one of the few cross routes that local traffic can use to avoid downtown. Does the city discourage using cross routes as a matter of policy?

The same comment applies to Henry and Orchard, though not quite as bad.

  • Whitney And Canner New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
Because Whitney has not been plowed to the edges (previously noted on See ClickFix), the drains are all covered by snow. Particularly a problem at Canner & Whitney.
