  • Ross Rd Del Valle, Texas - Austin
Grass at the end of Ross Rd and Pearce, and all down Ross Rd is so overgrown we can't see to leave a driveway, or pull out onto Pearce from Ross Rd (between Elroy Rd and Pearce Lane).
  • 6400 Ross Road Del Valle/Travis, Texas - Travis County

I have lived at this address for 18 years. Most of the area has been annexed by Austin due to the building of large subdivisions on each end of the this road, move of the airport to the former Bergstrom AFB, and building of the COTA track and Austin 360 Amphitheater.

This 3/4 mile section of road still has some livestock and seven (rural) homesteads on it. There are schools located on Elroy Rd, and the newer Ross Rd (does not intersect with this section). Children are constantly walking or biking down the road. I have pleaded for years to reduce the speed limit, to no avail. There are no sidewalks provided. The speed limit is posted at 40mph, for a 2 lane, small rural road. Meaning folks drive up to 50mph. I have the fence to my field driven through on 3 separate occasions, and while pulling into my driveway one night, another vehicle drove into the side of my pick-up, causing $8,000 of damage to the truck and $25,000 in personal injury. One lawsuit is still ongoing and I am still out funds.

This 3/4 mile section has been continuously repaired/patched, and pavement pulled up and replaced. 3-4 times since I bought this home, and now it is being done again, because I am being told it was done incorrectly all the other times, so they are 'in-place recycling which is a lot faster than the old method of remove & replace, so they should be wrapping up the work in about 3 weeks" - per Scott Lambert with Texas or Travis County DOT. His number for comments is 512-854-7651.

It has now been two weeks. The crews only work 2-4 hours daily. I was told last night that oil would be on the dirt today, and should cut down on 'some of the dirt and dust'. We saw no oil, but a street sweeper going through the dirt.

One summer, they started this work after schools let out, and milked it until a month after schools began. This is unsafe for Los Cielos and Stoney Ridge children. Additionally, I have COPD and my brother that resides with me has sleep apnea (stops breathing). My granddaughter suffers from asthma. This is not a health situation for any of us, breathing in all the dirt because Mr. Lambert has not posted the 'large 20mph signs' he promised, nor does the crew work an 8 hour day.

I have taken pictures in the past of when they show up to the equipment, sit on the side of the road talking for 2-3 hours, work 2-4 hours, and call it a day. Today they worked from 9:15am to 11:30am. Yesterday was 8:00am to 1:45pm.

I bought a brand new car last October. Of course it was a Chevy recall and I was without it for over 2 months. I had just gotten it back when they tore the road to dirt. I have attached a picture of what it looked like after less than 24 hours of this roadwork. We have a lawn tractor, truck, boat and motorcycle in the yard. They either cannot be used now, or have to be hosed down daily in order to use them.

I pray someone with any clout reads and makes issue of this, too. This is another 'milk the money' job so it isn't lost in the next year's budget for roads. This has happened way too often and should be brought to someone in authority's attention, or looked into.
