dumpster for demolition is parked less than a foot from play area for child in yard. we're concerned that debris could contain drywall from 1950-60's which often contains asbestos. or parts of heating system that do. also, if waste is being tossed into dumpster it could easily tumble into the yard. should be dust protection barrier or perhaps move the dumpster to sit on the front lawn of the house lengthwise to avoid dust and debris in neighbor's yard.
  • Summit Strett Ann Arbor, Michigan - Ann Arbor
I'm informed that speed signs do not make a difference, because all drivers know that neighborhood streets run at 25 miles per hour. Summit street is used as a major conduit for much of the day and takes the load off Miller for East West traffic. There have been many accidents over the last decade on Summit. All of the people I asked for an opinion who live on Summit with one exception, feel the traffic speeding on summit is a big problem. To contradict the belief that speed signs for 25MPH are not necessary I offer the fact that there is such a sign on DEVONSHIRE east of Arlington, where traffic is minimal. Devonshire, both before and after Arlington, has speed bumps too. I have seen the 25 mph sign in many places. We would a couple signs installed on Summit that inform drivers of the legal speed.

As a mini-break from the problems and travails of the corroding infrastructure and all that, let's take a second and address this positive aspect of Ann Arbor. In the picture you can see old rail road property or storage area turned into a lovely (hopefully edible) slice of garden in the midst of our busy city. And in the background sits a wonderfully re-cycled nineteenth century railroad station, once the Depot Club, an early hippie nightclub, turned into a good Montessori school for children. Something being done right ! Just ignore the buildings behind that.
  • 304 Depot Street Ann Arbor, Michigan - Ann Arbor
Hard to pull out. most cars need to get their front end well into traffic to see the far lane coming from the train station. worse at night. cars are parking even closer to corner. consider eliminating one parking space and making a tow away zone to corner. very busy on Depot much of the day. definitely have to cut off pedestrian zone to be safe entering traffic. see photo.

The limbs of pines and high vegetation right at the turn in the road are such that cars traveling from Arlington toward Avon are not able to see pedestrians walking on the curb on the curve until too late. Many walkers in the area have noted this blind spot. It will take careful assessment to open the view again.

501-511 West Summit Street Ann Arbor, Michigan - Ann Arbor
There are no speed indication signs on SUMMIT street. None. As a result, in a neighborhood with many children and elderly and high density, crossing the street at Summit is dangerous at some hours of the day. Summit is being used as a major cross town and out of town thoroughfare. For the portion from Brooks to Main street significant need of a 20 mile per hour speed limit. As would be typical of a neighborhood with an elementary school. There should also be another stop sign along the street, to slow down traffic.
