In an otherwise high bandwidth neighborhood, the Sunday night internet streaming of GOT stinks, indicating not a poor ISP, but poor server management. Please improve service by allowing all HBO employees to watch their head IT guy fed to the dragon in front of the Peabody.
  • Farnam Drive New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
Somewhere right along this stretch of Farham I saw two illegal tire dumpings.

Picture of Handsome Dan on Yale shuttle angers my otherwise docile dog. What could this mean?

The annual appearance of this pothole is upon us. Might be 10"-12" deep right now. Can't see it because its filled with water.
(PS Orange Street in general is a disaster up and down its length.)

To city workers looking to bring homeless to warming centers; please check at the far end of the Union Street Dog Park near the train tracks. There is a sporadic homeless encampment just over the concrete fence near the small dog area.

  • 245 Crown Street New Haven, Connecticut - Town_Green
Someone (maybe the Landino Project at the corner of College and Temple) cut a utility trench in Crown and then didn't properly patch it as required by city law. The trench is deep and its damaging cars and bikes.
  • 685 Orange Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
There is a 12" diameter sinkhole directly adjacent to a storm drain outlet which might indicate a lack of structural support for the basin. This intersection is at the trough of Orange Street and receives significant runoff so every one of the four storm drains is critical.

Issue : Yale has repeatedly failed to meet its legal obligation to promptly repair roads following construction, most notably on High Street which for the past decade has resembled the siege of Vicksburg.
New Haven Code of Ordinances (Article III, Ch.27, Sec27-71 through 27-84) is clear that street excavations have to be patched to the specs for the street and the repairs cannot fail for at least several years.

Issue : Yale has (most probably without permission) taken it upon themselves to paint a crosswalk midblock on High Street (btwn Chapel and Elm) with the daily net effect of an elderly person standing in the middle of the street focusing his or her camera on Harkness tower, unaware of impending vehicles.
CT State Statutes (Section 14-297) define a crosswalk as the extension of a public sidewalk across a street to another sidewalk. The path from Old Campus Quad to Harkness Tower fails to meet that definition.. Although the BOA was foolish enough to sell the rest of High Street, this portion still remains public property and should not be commandeered by the University.

Issue: Yale has also taken it upon themselves to tamp a large pile of asphalt on the Harkness side of the street sloping from street to sidewalk. Although this resembled a handicap ramp, it fails to actually meet the ADA definition, is the inversion of a curb cut extending out into the street and therefore puts vehicles in grave danger. A peninsula of curb height pavement extending several feet out into a city street (already constricted by Yale’s dorm renovations) recklessly endangers the public.
High Street is public property and should not be used or abused by private entities.

Sorry I don't have the exact location but I had to swerve to avoid these deep holes at the curb and nearly head-on'd the oncoming car...so I was shocked. Its bad.

In honor of the Sochi Olympics and though some mysterious partial plowing method, DPW has created a car luge track on College Street. I invite you all to try it.

At the corners of Church and George and Church and Center, there are "stop here on red" signs. Below each one is another sign reading " except for bicycles". This seems extreme dangerous because it could send a bicyclist into transverse traffic. Is this a prank?
  • Temple And Chapel New Haven, CT - Town_Green
UI has blocked the center lane on the green side of Temple Street for work on the other side of the intersection. The three temple street lanes go left straight and right, so theres no reason to block this lane. This is stupid and has blocked traffic back to Elm street. Totally unneccesary stressing of downtown traffic.

Besides running his probably ilegally loud leaf blower every weekend, this homeowner is currently illegally blowing leaves into the street and into the street construction site that workers have been diligently excavating this week.

P.S. Can't we just ban commercial leaf blowers and gas mowers on weekends? How about some peace and quiet?

  • Lincoln St New Haven, CT - East Rock

So who decided to spray paint "In the face of boundlessness, we build walls" on a historically significant private home that is being carefully restored by owners (who are providing needed jobs in a bad economy)?

If you have any sense of shame, you'll go back over there and volunteer to help properly remove the grafitti.

  • Orange And Lawrence New Haven, CT - East Rock
There are political signs on public property up and down Orange Street. I'm pretty sure that this is illegal.

A very sweet young tiger cat has been wandering around this intersection since the storm. Saw hurricane-like markings on her sides and was going to name her Irene, but "she" is a "he"... so scratch that (no pun intended). If you own this cat could you please pick him up (and tag him!)...and let this forum know he's safely at home.
