Deep potholes.

  • 430 Shelton Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Newhallville
The same 10-15 people loiter all day every day in front of the empty house at 430 Shelton Avenue. They sit in lawn chairs, on the side walk, openly drinking alcohol, beer, and smoking Marijuana, loudly swearing, getting into physical and verbal altercations, playing loud music, and taking up all the residential parking. Recently, a man who owns a food cart has started selling out of his cart to them. The Police never patrol. The loitering NEEDS TO STOP!!!!!!!!

The house is empty and the front yard is filling up with assorted trash (including lots of empty beer and liquor bottles), broken chairs, broken glass...you name it.

The large number of people who frequent the liquor store next to the empty house at 430 Shelton Avenue, New Haven loiter there from the minute the liquor store opens (10:00a.m. Monday thru Friday, and 12noon on Sunday's) until well after it closes 7-days a week. Said people, have verbal and physical altercations; play loud music; dance in the street; sit in lawn chairs in front of 430 Shelton; openly drink beer and alcohol, and loudly swear in front of women and children. Additionally, the residents who have to park on the street, have no place to park when we come home from work, and we can't go out on weekends because we'll lose our parking space. It is, primarily, an elderly neighborhood, and we are being held hostage by this deplorable situation. The Police Department seems to think that New Haven ends at Read Street. It doesn't. It ends just past 430 Shelton Avenue. We need the Police to regularly patrol our block (several times each day, 7-days per week), and to ask the loiterers to leave, and to start arresting them for the illegal activities we all see them engaging in daily. It’s been going on for too many years, and we have had enough!

I've reported this dangerous problem to the City three times (during the past Fall, Winter and Spring). The Arborist said he looked at the problem. However, trimming has not occurred. The problem is that, tree branches across from each other (on opposite sides of the street) are pushing downward on all the cables (leading from the light pole to the house at 427-429 Shelton).
If the limbs break, or there's heavy rain, snow storms, or high winds, the cables are going to be pulled down further, and detach from the pole or the house. Resulting in limbs and cables falling onto the road and cars, and possibly loss of electricity to houses on the block.
Additionally, long, secondary limbs and leaves are growing out of the bases of trees (at eye level), which is also dangerous. Please trim the trees. Thank you.

Rainwater and melting snow do not flow down hill into the drainage grate that's 100 feet away down the block.
Instead, flood water 24 inches deep and 15-feet wide by 15-feet long, or thick, slippery ice collects in the street (curbside just before the edge of the driveway).
The water or ice are too deep, slippery and dangerous to wade through or walk across. And, other paths through mounds of snow are rare.
If the City would install additional drainage, or otherwise correct how water is supposeed to flow into the existing grate it would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Several areas of the sidewalk are elevated about 3 inches above the rest of the walkway. Someone's going to trip and fall. Thank you.

Ella T. Grasso Blvd. And Goffeterrace New Haven, Connecticut - Beaver Hills
There are a dozen potholes very close together in the middle of the intersection. There is no way around them, which is causing issues with the movement of traffic. Thank you.
  • 3 Vernon Street New Haven, Connecticut - New Haven - Ward 03
This is a liability issue. Across the street from 3 Vernon Street, there's a detached, large black object and a long thick black cable, which have become detached from a telephone pole. Both the object and the cable are being held up by thin tree branches. If the object falls, it could hit someone walking below it. Thank you.

Long Wharf Drive New Haven, Connecticut - Long Wharf
When cars turn onto Long Wharf Drive (headed past the old Gateway College parking lot), on one side of the 2-lane road, along Long Wharf Drive are about a dozen potholes in close proximity to each other. One is very wide. The road curves to the left, and in order to avoid all the potholes, cars are being driven in the opposite lane (toward Sargent Drive). A few times, I've seen cars headed in opposite directions almost collide. To otherwise avoid the potholes, drivers have to swing to the right, and risk almost hitting the curb. Thank you.
  • 482 Greenwich Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - City Point
Deep and wide pothole in front of C-Town Market's driveway at 482 Greenwich Ave. Cars waiting to enter parking lot can't turn into it because cars driving straight in the opposite lane can't dodge the pothole, as well as cars parked on the street. Resulting in both lanes not being able to move, unless several cars are backed up, to allow cars going straight to swing to the left enough to get around the pothole.
